Apply In-Person:
Step 1:
To Obtain a Driving License for Motorcars (Class 3,3A), the applicant has to approach the Singapore Police Force for information contact link or the applicant should attend any of the three training centres that are mentioned below;


Step 2: Pass the Basic Theory Test (BTT)

  • The applicant can book for the Basic Theory Test (BTT) at the counter of your driving school.
  • Bring all the required documents and pay the fee.
  • You will be given a test fee receipt indicating the date & time of your test and the venue of the test.


Step 3: Apply for a Provisional Driving Licence (PDL) for Class 3/3A.

  • Submit all the required documents, pay the fee and you must also pass the pre-requisite eyesight test conducted by Traffic Police staff counter.


Step 4: Take driving lessons.

step 5: Pass the Final Theory Test

  • The applicant can book for the Final Theory Test (FTT) at the counter of your driving school.
  • Bring all the required documents and pay the fee.
  • You will be given a test fee receipt indicating the date, time and venue of the test.


Step 6: Pass the Practical Driving Test (PDT)

  • To book for the PDT, bring all the required documents and pay the fee.
  • Please note that you cannot make an appointment for the test if you have accumulated 13 or more demerit points for traffic offences. Even though you have registered for the test, you will not be allowed to sit for it if you have 13 or more demerit points.
  • Upon booking, you will be given a receipt indicating time, date & venue of the test.
  • The Practical Driving Test will be conducted by a Driving Tester appointed by Traffic Police. The vehicle used must be in good mechanical condition and properly insured for the test.
  • The Practical Driving Test consists of two parts. The first part is conducted on a driving circuit to test of your skills and judgement. The second part is conducted on the public roads. It tests your ability to interact safely with other road users and how you comply with the traffic rules and regulations.
  • The tester will assess your driving performance with a checklist. All possible driving errors are shown on the checklist. The student will accumulate penalty points ranging from 2 to 10 for each mistake. A student who accumulates penalty points in excess of a predetermined number of points fails the test. The student fails the test immediately if he commits any serious mistakes. The checklist used for the test will be given to you at the end of the test so that you can learn from your mistakes.


Step 7:
Up on the successful completion, the applicant will be provided the license within the stipulated period of time.

EligibilityEdit

A person should be:

  • Aged 18 years or older
  • Passed an eyesight and colour blindness test
  • Physically and mentally fit
  • Did not accumulate more than 12 demerit points under the driver improvement points system (DIPS)
  • Do not have any driving licence (qualified or provisional) under revocation, disqualification or suspension.

Need for the DocumentEdit

With a Class 3 and 3A driving licences he/ she can drive:

  • Vehicles with unlade weight weighing 3,000 kg or less (max 7 passengers with one driver)
  • Other vehicles with unlade weight not exceeding 2,500 kg.

Differences between the Class 3 and Class 3A licences:
With a Class 3 licence:

  • The applicant can drive a car with manual transmission and a clutch pedal
  • The applicant can also drive an automatic transmission vehicle (Class 3A), and
  • A Class 3 licence is required to apply for a Class 4 or Class 4A licence.


With a Class 3A licence:

  • The applicant can drive a car with an automatic transmission and without a clutch pedal
  • The applicant cannot drive manual transmission vehicles (Class 3), and
  • The applicant cannot use a Class 3A licence to apply for a Class 4 or Class 4A licence.
