Procedure

Apply Online

1. To Get Sale License or Permit for Herbal Tea, the applicant has to make the application in GoBusiness licensing portal or tap the following link
2. Enter a search “Food shop (Sales of Herbal Tea) licence” then click on "Add to selection"> click on "Review and Apply" and then click the "Proceed" button.
3. The applicant can also make a search by clicking the “Government Agencies” and select “Singapore Food Agency” SFA and choose the appropriate service.

   Note: If the applicants don’t not have an account, then they can register by clicking on register now, read the information marked 1 and 2 and agree to the terms and condition and click on register now, on the next page enter their personal information and submit.They will be issued with the Sing Pass ID number and password.

4. The applicant has to provide the general information and application details in the application form.
5. Make sure that the applicant has to upload all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
6. Review and submit the application form.
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee given in the “Fees” section of this page.
8. SFA will post out the hardcopy licences within 7 working days upon successful payment.

Details of applicant (where applicable)

• Individual (Singaporean or Singapore PR) – Both sides of NRIC or
• Company (Pte Ltd/ Ltd/ LLP)– Information Business Profile from Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) or
• Society - Certificate of Registration from Registrar of Societies
• Letter of authorisation (when submission of application is not done by intended licensee/director of company holding the licence)
  

Details of premises/operations

• Layout plan of premises (in scaled metric units)
• Planning permission from relevant land agency e.g. URA and HDB
• Tenancy agreement
• Supplementary Information form to capture business name, type of food sold, business operating hours, etc.
  

Food handlers

• Attend and pass WSQ Follow Food & Beverage Safety and Hygiene Policies and Procedures (Food Handler)
  

Cleaning and maintenance

• Cleaning program
• Pest control contract covering the control of rodents, cockroaches and flies during the year-long licensing period. The inspection frequency of the food shop premises selling only herbal tea shall be at least once every 3 months to detect any sign of pest infestation.

Need for the Document

To strengthen food hygiene standards and give consumers greater assurance when purchasing such products, existing and new Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM premises with ancillary preparation and sales food/drinks, e.g., herbal drinks and tea-leaf eggs will need to be licensed by SFA under Food shop (Sales of Herbal Tea) licence.

Other uses of the Document/Certificate

Other than herbal tea, foods involving simple preparation steps (e.g. boiling) such as tea-leaf eggs are also permitted under the Food shop (Sales of Herbal Tea) licence.
