Singapore - Apply for Government-Paid Maternity Benefit (GPMB)

The working women in Singapore can enjoy the maternal benefit from the government. This was introduced to help the mothers who did not qualify for the Government-Paid Maternity Leave (GPML).


Apply Online

  1. The self employed person shall visit the GPL portal in the following link to submit claim.GPL portal online link
  2. Click on the button “Submit applications” present below the heading “I want to..”.
  3. Choose the “A self employed person / parent” option in the pop up.
  4. Log in through SingPass account. Create an account if you don’t have an account.
  5. In the next page, read the instructions, fill in the required details of applicant and child, and click on “Continue” button.
  6. Fill in the details of employment, and click on the “Continue” button to proceed.
  7. Next, fill in the details of income, and click on the “Continue” button to proceed.
  8. Upload the required documents and click on “Submit” button.
  9. Check all the details and click on “Confirm” button. Then click on “Yes” button to confirm.
  10. An application transaction number will be displayed. Note it down for reference.
  11. The status of the application can also be checked within the portal itself.
  12. To view the status, visit the following Online link. Click on the “View APPLICATION STATUS” button. Then click on the “A Self Employed Person/Parent” option. Login through SingPass and proceed to check the status.
  13. A notification will be sent to the applicant after the application is processed.


Note:
The applicant has to record and keep all start and end dates of the employment contract(s) or trade/business periods in the 12 months before the child's date of birth.

  • Declaration form
  • Scanned copies of employment contracts for all employments during the 12-month period immediately before child's date of birth.
  • Scanned copies of pay slips or the latest Notice of Assessment from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS).

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant’s child should be a Singapore citizen even if the husband is not a Singapore citizen.
  • The child should have born or have an estimated delivery date (EDD) on or after 1 January 2013.
  • The applicant should have served the employer for a period of at least 90 days in the 12 months before child’s date of birth.
  • Those who qualify for GPML scheme cannot avail this benefit.

InstructionsEdit

  • The claims cannot be submitted after 15 months from the child’s date of birth.
  • The claims should be submitted on time. All late claims will be discarded.
