Apply In-Person
For Employee:

  1. The applicant shall visit the office of his/her employer to get this grant.
  2. Early notice should be given to the employer before taking the leave.
  3. Meanwhile, the employer will verify your eligibility and make alternate work arrangements.
  4. The application form can be downloaded from the online link
  5. Now complete the form with the necessary information and make sure you have all the documents in hand that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. Attach the documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below with the completed application form.
  7. Check the application form and then submit it to the employer.
  8. After approval from the employer, the adoption leave can be applied according to the company’s procedure.
  9. The employer, after receiving the form and all the documents should submit the employee’s claim through the GPL portal (Government Paid Leave Portal) before three months from the last date of employee's adoption leave taken.
  10. The claim can be submitted online through the following steps.
    • The employer shall visit the GPL portal in the following online link
    • Click on the button “Submit applications” present below the heading “I want to..”.
    • Choose the “An employer” option in the pop up.
    • Log in using CorpPass account or SingPass account. Create an account if you don’t have an account.
    • Click on “new form” button. In the next page, read the instructions, fill in the required details and click on “Continue” button.
    • Fill in the employer details such as contact details and bank details, and click on the “continue” button to proceed.
    • Fill in the details of the employee and adoption details, and click on the “Continue” button to proceed.
    • Fill in the details of leave and click on “Submit” button.
    • Check all the details and click on “Confirm” button. Then click on “Yes” button to confirm.
    • An application transaction number will be displayed. Note it down for reference.
    • The status of the application can also be checked within the portal itself.
    • To view the status, visit the following Online link. Click on the “View APPLICATION STATUS” button. Then click on the “An Employer” option. Login through SingPass and proceed to check the status.
  11. A notification will be sent to the employer and the employee after the application is processed.


Apply Online
For self employed

  1. The self employed person has to record and keep all the adoption leave dates before applying for claim.
  2. The self employed person shall visit the GPL portal in the following online link
  3. Click on the button “Submit applications” present below the heading “I want to..”.
  4. Choose the “A self employed person / parent” option in the pop up.
  5. Log in through SingPass account. Create an account if you don’t have an account.
  6. In the next page, read the instructions, fill in the required details and click on “Continue” button.
  7. Fill in the parent details such as contact details, bank details and adoption details, and click on the “continue” button to proceed.
  8. Fill in the details of leave and click on “Submit” button.
  9. Check all the details and click on “Confirm” button. Then click on “Yes” button to confirm.
  10. An application transaction number will be displayed. Note it down for reference.
  11. The status of the application can also be checked within the portal itself.
  12. To view the status, visit the following Online link. Click on the “View APPLICATION STATUS” button. Then click on the “A Self Employed Person/Parent” option. Login through SingPass and proceed to check the status.
  13. A notification will be sent to the self employed person after the application is processed.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant should be the child's adoptive mother.
  • The adopted child should be less than 12 months old when the adoption leave is taken.
  • If the adopted child is not a Singapore citizen, then the adoptive mother or her husband who is adopting should be a Singapore citizen. The adopted child should obtain Singapore citizenship within 6 months after passing of the Adoption order.
  • An employee should have served the employer for a period of at least three months prior to the date of formal intent to adopt.
  • A self-employed person should have engaged in a particular business, trade or profession for a period of at least three months prior to the date of formal intent to adopt.

InstructionsEdit

  • If the formal intent of the parent to adopt is before 1 July 2017, then 4 weeks of adoption leave is granted. The leave should not start before the formal intent to adopt. The leave should not end after 12 months from the date of birth of the child.
  • By default, the adoption leave should be taken in one continuous block (including weekends and other public holidays). Adoption leave can be taken flexibly after making a mutual agreement with the employer.
  • The Government will pay for all the four weeks of adoption leave, capped (upper limit) at $10,000
  • If the formal intent of the parent to adopt is on or after 1 July 2017, then 4 weeks of adoption leave is granted. The leave should not start before the formal intent to adopt. It should not start on a later date after the date of issue of the adoption order. The leave should not end after 12 months from the date of birth of the child.
  • By default, the adoption leave should be taken in one continuous block (including weekends and other public holidays). Adoption leave can be taken flexibly after making a mutual agreement with the employer.
  • The first eight weeks of adoption leave should be taken in one continuous block (including weekends and other public holidays). It should start anytime between the formal intent to adopt and the date of issue of the Adoption Order. The remaining four weeks of adoption leave can be taken flexibly.
  • The Claim of reimbursement (payment of money by the government) can be made only after the leave is taken.
  • All claims must be submitted before 3 months from the last date of adoption leave taken.
  • The claims should be submitted on time. All late claims will be discarded.

Information which might helpEdit

  • The adoptive mother can share up to 4 weeks of adoption leave with her husband, who is the adoptive father under the Shared Parental Leave (SPL) Scheme.
  • The first four weeks of adoption leave will be paid by the employer (for the 1st and 2nd children), and the last 8 weeks of leave will be paid by the Government. For the 3rd and subsequent children, all the 12 weeks of leave will be paid by the Government.
  • The Government will pay for the adoption leave (up to 8 weeks for 1st and 2nd child order and 12 weeks for 3rd child order onwards)
  • The formal intent to adopt can be elaborated as below:
    • If the adopted child is a Singapore citizen, then the date when an application for adoption is submitted to the Court is the date of formal intent to adopt
    • If the adopted child is not a Singapore citizen, then the date when the Dependent's Pass (DP) is issued for the child or the document with approval is given is the date of formal intent to adopt.
