Apply In Person
- To Apply for Family Benefit (Assistance) Scheme, the applicant has to approach their respective state social welfare department link
- The applicant can obtain the application form from the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The fee for this procedure is free of cost.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the process gets completed successfully, the applicant gets the Subsidy Schemes with the authority's signature through email.
- The processing time for this procedure takes up to 15-30 days.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant family should belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL).
- Any event of death, whether it’s natural or otherwise would make the family eligible to apply for the scheme.
- If the family lives in the urban areas, then the total income of the whole family must not exceed INR 56,000, and the income of the applicant household under the rural areas must not exceed INR 46,000.
- The death benefit scheme will be given only to those families whose head is between 18 to 60 years.
- In case 15 of the death of an unmarried adult, the term household would include minor brothers or sisters and dependent parents.
- The family benefit will be paid to the household (includes spouse, minor children, unmarried daughter and dependent parents) of the deceased person after the local inquiry done by the government official.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) provides one-time lump sum cash assistance of Rs. 20,000 to families living below poverty line on the death of the primary bread-earner between the age group of 18-59. The objective of the scheme is to ensure social security of the households living below poverty line. The payment is to be made to the widow or the un-married daughter of the family.

Objectives of the Scheme
- Provides social assistance benefits to the poor households in the case of death, maternity, or old age of the breadwinner.
- Ensure minimum national standards, in addition to the benefits, the States are currently providing or might provide in the future.
- Ensure uniform social protection to the beneficiaries across the country without interruption.
