Within Senegal application process

  1. To Request a Literal Copy of the Birth Certificates, the person concerned should visit the civil status center office where the birth was registered. (Please view contact and address details below).
  2. Express your interest to the registrar and present at least one of the supporting documents (as mentioned under the required documents section below) to the registrar to be validated.
  3. If any of the supporting documents are not available, the applicant can verbally provide the references of the birth certificate (date, certificate number, etc.).
  4. The registrar will then verify, if all the necessary information and documents have been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria, if everything is in order, you will then be required to pay for a sticker, whose value varies according to the localities.
  5. The registrar will then search through the registration records, for the death registration recorded, if registered;
  6. The registrar will draw up the Literal Copy of the Birth Certificate, sign, and stamp it, and then issued it to the applicant.


Abroad application process

  1. For birth that occurred abroad or People residing abroad, the person concerned should contact the diplomatic or consular representation of Senegal in the country of Birth, in a case where the Senegal embassy is not available; the applicant should contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  2. The application can be filed either in person or by mail or by post, please consult with the embassy as not all the embassy offers mail and post services.
  3. The Embassy's consular service section will be able to help process your request to obtain a Literal copy of a birth certificate, upon submitting the supporting documentation as mentioned below under the “Required Documents” section of this page to be verified and registered by the receiving officer.
  4. If any of the supporting documents are not available, the applicant can verbally provide the references of the birth certificate (date, certificate number, etc.).
  5. Upon receipt of your request, it will be processed and the Literal copy of a birth certificate signed, and stamped by the authorized official and issued to the applicant against their identity document in person or sent to it via mail or post;{if the embassy offers the mail and post services)


Please Note:
Applicants who want their processed Literal copy of a birth certificate sent to them by post are advised to attach one of the following to their request(s):

  • A registered self-addressed envelope with the appropriate stamps (letter recommendée);
  • A pre-paid envelope from any recognized courier service provider.
  • Please note; Not all embassies offer the post/mail return service (please consult with the embassy first)

  • Anyone who appeared when the document was drawn up (parents, witnesses, doctor, etc.)
  • Administrative or judicial authorities



FeesEdit

Purchase a fiscal stamp, the amount of which varies according to the locality

  • From 200 FCFA to 500 FCFA for the municipalities
  • From 75 FCFA to 150 FCFA for the rural communities


For abroad application; please consult the nearest embassy as the application fee varies from one mission to another
