ProcedureEdit

1.The applicants upon arrival into the country should prepare application for refugee status and file it together with support document to the refugee authorities in the area of arrival. For instance applications can be submitted to camp authorities or offices of partnering world organizations who forward the received applications to the National Commission for Eligibility (NCE);

2.When the National Commission for Eligibility (NCE) receives application for refugee status from asylum seekers, the submitted documents are examined to assess eligibility of applicants; at this stage, an application may be accepted or rejected;

3.If the eligibility commission approves an application, it is forwarded to the office of the presidency of the Republic for approval of the decision to grant refugee status to applicants who filed their application for recognition. If an application is not approved, the eligibility commission communicates to the applicant by giving details of why it was rejected;

4.Upon approval, the National Commission for Eligibility (NCE) also informs the successful applicant fiving details of why his / her application was successful;

5.The successful applicant is then issued with refugee identity cards and other identification documents to enable them access services there are entitled by law.;

Need for the DocumentEdit

Asylum is protection given extended to a foreigner who is running away from home country due presence of war / insecurity or due to fear of persecution; applying for asylum means applying to be recognized as a refugee in a foreign country. In Senegal the National Commission for Eligibility (NCE) under the Ministry of Interior is responsible for examining and assessing application submitted by asylum seekers.

  • Asylum seekers must not that according to Senegal laws foreigners staying in the country without legal authorization if caught are subjected to punishment by the law.

  • Asylum seekers after approval are able to receive protection;
  • If approved, a foreigner is entitled to a number of rights in the country for instance staying in the country freely and receive a number of services like education, medical, employment and other public services;
