Apply In-Person:
- To Get Bereavement Support Payment, the applicant has to approach the Social Security of Scotland link or Department for Work and Pensions Bereavement Service link nearby Local Register Office link
- Note: The applicant has to enter their Postcode to find nearby offices.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- There is no fee for Bereavement Support Payment.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
- For further process, the applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
- If the application is successful, the applicant will receive the Bereavement Support Payment in a lump sum or as monthly payments, depending on the circumstances.
- The entire process can be completed within 15 – 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit
- The applicant may be eligible for the Bereavement Support Payment if the spouse or civil partner has died on or after 6 April 2017.
- The applicant must also be under the State Pension age, and the spouse or civil partner must have paid National Insurance contributions for a certain amount of time.
