  1. To Apply for Music License, the applicant has to make the application online via link
  2. The applicant has to click the “Get a licence from PPL PRS”
  3. The page will be re-directed to the new page.
  4. The applicant has to click the “Get the music license”
  5. The applicant has to complete all the details and click the “GET A QUOTE”
  6. If the applicant is a new user, the applicant has to select “Create a new account”.
  7. The officer will check the details which is submitted by the applicant.
  8. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  9. The applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
  10. And upload all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  11. Pay the prescribed amount fee in online mode.
  12. Once completed with all the details click the “Submit” button.
  13. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  14. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  15. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  16. Once the applicant receives the music license(s), ensure that they are displayed in a prominent location at the venue where the music will be played or performed.
  17. This entire process can be completed within 2 – 3 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

ValidityEdit

The validity of a music license in Scotland depends on the type of license the applicant is issued and the type of music he/she is using.

  • Public performance license: A public performance license is required to play music in a public place, such as a bar, restaurant, or concert hall. Public performance licenses are valid for one year.
  • Broadcast license: A broadcast license is required to broadcast music on radio or television. Broadcast licenses are valid for one year.
  • Recording license: A recording license is required to record music. Recording licenses are valid for one year.
  • Mechanical license: A mechanical license is required to distribute copies of music, such as CDs or vinyl records. Mechanical licenses are valid for the life of the copyright.
