  1. There is no specific Health Clinic License required in Scotland. However, you may need to obtain an independent healthcare service, depending on the specific activities that you will be carrying out in your clinic.



Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Health Clinic License, the applicant must approach their respective Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS)link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant must fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant must attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant must pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. All applications are processed within a reasonable time, having regard to the circumstances of each application, including the completeness of information and documents submitted to the authority by the applicant.
  10. The authority may seek additional information from an applicant if this is necessary to assess the application. The authority does not need to deal further with an application until the applicant has provided this additional information.
  11. Expect an inspection and assessment of your healthcare service to ensure that it meets the necessary standards and regulations. The regulatory authority will schedule this inspection and may provide you with feedback and recommendations for improvement.
  12. If your healthcare service meets all the requirements and passes inspection, you will receive a license or registration certificate from the regulatory authority. Ensure that you display this certificate prominently within your healthcare facility.
  13. After registration, you must continue to comply with all regulatory requirements and report any significant changes or incidents as required by the regulatory authority.
  14. This entire process can be completed within 15 - 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

To be eligible to register an independent healthcare service in Scotland, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a fit and proper person to run a healthcare service. This means that you must have no criminal convictions or financial problems that would make you ineligible to hold a registration.
  • You must have the necessary premises and equipment to provide the healthcare services that you are proposing to offer.
