Apply In Person

  1. To apply for Crisis Grant, the applicant must visit or contact the respective local council link
    Note: The applicant has to select their local Council from the dropdown menu.
  2. The processing method of application may vary depending on the council link. So, follow the steps required as per the council website.
  3. However, the applicant must fill in the application form provided.
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. After completing, review the application and submit it.
  7. The concerned council will check for eligibility and if the information and documents meet up to the criteria for applying.
  8. Information such as bank and work details should be given correctly.
  9. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  10. All applications are processed within a reasonable time, having regard to the particular circumstances of each application, including the completeness of information and documents submitted to the authority by the applicant.
  11. The authority may seek additional information from an applicant if this is necessary to assess the application. The authority does not need to deal further with an application until the applicant has provided this additional information.
  12. Once the authority approves the application, an email will be sent concerning the confirmation of the grant.
  13. The processing time takes about two days to produce the outcome. It may vary according to the concerning local council.

InstructionsEdit

  • Any emergency or unexpected expense made must be provided as evidence.
  • The key test of eligibility for a crisis grant is the severity of the applicant’s situation and the likely impact on them and their family.
  • The applicant can’t get more than three crisis grants in a 12-month period unless they prove that it isn’t their fault.
  • It is not possible to get a crisis grant if the applicant has resources of their own which can be used to deal with the emergency.

  • The only pre-requisite is being16 or over. Applicants should normally be entitled to Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit, Savings Pension Credit, or payment on account of one of them in order to be eligible for a Crisis Grant but it is not essential. There is no qualifying period for receipt of these benefits.
