Apply Online
- To apply for EI Regular Benefits, the applicant will need to submit the application form online, this must be done as soon as possible, find further information under the “Instructions” section of this page.
- Click on the following link to the application form: Link.
- Scroll to the bottom and click on “Start application” button.
- Read the Privacy notice statement and click on “Start application” button.
- Answer the questions when prompted and click on “Continue”.
- Under “What type of Employment Insurance benefits would you like to claim?”, click on the “Benefits for employees” option and click on “Continue”.
- Under the next question; “Are you part….(including layoffs due to a natural disaster)...this application?” click on “Yes”. (If applicable) or “No “and click on “Continue” button.
- If the applicant clicked on the “No” option then under “What type of benefits are you applying for?”, click on the “Regular Benefits” option. Click on “Continue”.
- Read the instructions carefully and click on “Continue” button.
- The applicant will be directed to the application page, enter all the relevant details and click on “Continue” button.
- The applicant will need to enter details of employers as well as their bank information, once all details have been entered, click on “Submit”.
- Once the application and the document have been submitted, the applicant will receive a benefit statement and four-digit access code by email.
- The applicant will need this code and their Social Insurance Number to track their application.
- The applicant can track their application from the Service Canada Centre or MSCA account.
Creating a My Service Canada Account (MSCA)
- The applicant will have to register for a My Service Canada Account (MSCA). If the applicant has an account, they can login using their credentials. If the applicant does not have an account, follow these steps:
- To create an account, click on the following Link.
- Scroll to the bottom and under the “New User” option, click on the option the applicant would like to register using.
- Click on “Start now”.
- The applicant will need to enter all the relevant details such as username, password, bank details and so on and the account will be created.
- The applicant can track their application using their MSCA account.

EligibilityEdit
- The applicant must have been employed in insurable employment.
- The applicant lost their job and it was not the application's fault.
- The applicant was affected by flooding or wild fires.
- The applicant has been without work and without pay for at least 7 consecutive days in the last 52 weeks.
- The applicant has worked for the required number of insurable employment hours in the last 52 weeks or since the start of the applicant’s last EI claim.
- The applicant is ready, willing and capable of working each day
- The applicant is actively looking for work.

FeesEdit
- The applicant does not need to pay any fees to obtain EI Regular Benefits.
- Before the applicant starts receiving their benefits, there is a one week waiting period, this is deductible as in any type of insurance.
ValidityEdit
- The benefits are valid until the person requiring care no longer needs it.

Processing TimeEdit
- The applicant shall start receiving payments 28 days after the submission of the application.
- There is a one week waiting period before the applicant starts receiving money, this is like the deductible one pays for other types of insurance.

InstructionsEdit
- The applicant can apply online at home, at any Service Canada Centre using one of the many Internet kiosks available, or at a public Internet access site, such as a public library.
- The applicant must either drop off their paper ROEs in person at any Service Canada Centre or mail them to the address mentioned under the “Office Locations and Contacts” section of this page.
- The applicant must apply for the benefits as soon as they stop working.
- The applicant must submit the application even if they have not received their record of employment.
- The applicant will need to keep submitting bi-weekly reports to obtain benefits, find further information here: Link
