Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a driver’s license in Canada the applicant will need to first get a Learner’s license.
    • Register with a motor license issuer to create an account and take the test online.
    • The applicant can find the nearest issuer here issuer
    • The applicant can also do a walk-in test at the office.
    • The applicant will have to pay a fee of 25$.
    • The registry agent will check to see if you have good vision.
    • Once the applicant passes these tests, a class 7 license will be issued.
    • The applicant will receive a temporary license which they can use until the license card arrives by mail.
    • Once the applicant receives the license card, they will have to destroy the temporary license.
  2. After 24 months, the applicant is eligible for a class 5 GDL license on a probationary basis, follow these steps to apply:
    • Schedule a test with the nearest registry agent.

    • Or you can schedule a test here schedule appointment
    • The registry agent will inform you of the documents that are needed.
    • The applicant will have to pass a vision test.
    • The applicant will have to give a driver’s test.
    • Once the applicant passes these tests, they can buy the license card.
    • The applicant will be given a temporary license card until the card arrives through mail.
    • Destroy the temporary card once the license card arrives through mail.
  3. After a period of 7 months and enrolling in the driver education school and without any suspensions, the applicant can apply for a Class 5 Novice 1 license.
    • Schedule a test with the nearest registry agent.
    • Make sure the applicant’s vehicle meets all standards, if it doesn’t the test will be cancelled.
    • Book an appointment at the MySGI portal.

    • Make fee payment.
    • The registry agent will inform you of the documents that are needed.
    • The applicant will have to pass a vision test.
    • The applicant will have to give a driver’s test.
    • Once the applicant passes these tests, they can buy the license card.
    • The applicant will be given a temporary license card until the card arrives through mail.
    • Continue practising driving for a period of 6 months.
    • Once the six-month period is over the applicant will get the Novice 2 license through the mail.
    • Continue practising for 12 months, and after this period if there are no problems (Accidents), the applicant will graduate to an experienced class 5 driver.
