Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Canada Pension Plan (Post-Retirement Disability Benefit) in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest Service Canada office.

  3. The applicant has to visit the office and obtain an application form for Post-Retirement Disability Benefit (as applicable) from the relevant department or find the download links below:
  4. After downloading the application, the applicant can fill it online as well as offline. Make sure that all the documents in the “Required Documents” section of this page are available.
  5. Complete the application as per convenience, attest it with signature and attach the required documents with the application form.
  6. Then, submit the application package to the relevant authority at the respective Service Canada office.
  7. The application process is free and the applicant need not pay anything to apply for the Post-Retirement Disability Benefit.
  8. Once submitted, the applicant will have to complete a Medical report (as applicable) with their doctor or nurse practitioner.
  9. Medical report download links can be found below:
  10. Complete it as required and submit to the relevant authority at the respective Service Canada office.
  11. Upon receipt of the application and all the required information, the Department will proceed to review and assess the submitted information.
  12. On completion of the review, the Service Canada office will call the applicant to inform the decision made or request for more information to arrive at a decision.
  13. The office may ask the applicant to consult another doctor for medical report. After reviewing the second report, the office will send a decision letter to the applicant through mail.
  14. In any case, the processing gets completed within 120 days from the date of the receipt of application.
  15. In the meantime, the applicant can contact the office for knowing the status of the application.


Apply online

  • Using GC Key
  1. To apply for Canada Pension Plan (Post-Retirement Disability Benefit) online using GC Key, the applicant has to visit the following GC Key
  2. Visit the link, scroll down to the bottom and click “Start now” button. In the next page, enter the user details in the respective fields, then click “Sign In” button, if the applicant already has an account.
  3. If not, click the “Sign Up” button to create an account. Click “I accept” button and type an appropriate username in the next tab.
  4. Click “Continue” button and create a password for the account in the next tab, then click “Continue” button.
  5. Create Recovery Questions, Answers and Hints in the next page and click “Continue” button. Click “I agree” button in the next page.
  6. In the next page, there will be two options to help verify the applicant’s identity. Select an applicable option.
  7. Once the applicant has signed in with GC Key and verified his/her identity, the applicant will be directed to create the MSCA profile.
  8. Follow the onscreen instructions and complete the profile creation. Proceed to sign in using the Username and Password.
  9. After profile creation, the applicant has to complete the application for the Canada Pension Plan (Post-Retirement Disability Benefit) by clicking the applicable button.
  10. Complete the online application with respect to the requirement by providing the necessary details and information.
  11. Once completed, submit the application by clicking the applicable button. After submitting the online application form, the applicant has to complete Consent for Service Canada to Obtain Personal Information form (ISP-2502).

  3. Respective online banking portal will be opened, login into it using the user credentials.

  • After applying, the applicants may log into their MSCA at any time to submit the documents in support of their application. This process is the same for terminal illness applications.
  • The applicants are advised to write/type their Social Insurance Number at the top of each page in the form and sign all areas that require their signature.
  • If the applicant is unable to fill out the forms, a family member or a friend can help them. They should make sure that they sign wherever necessary.
  • The applicants are advised to keep photocopies of everything they submit. If they call the applicants, they should write down the name of the person they speak to and the date and time of the conversation.

  • Canada Pension Plan (CPP) disability benefit offers monthly payment for people under the age of 65, people who have made enough contributions into the CPP, people who have a mental or physical disability or people with long-term disability.

  • The Post-Retirement Disability Benefit is paid in addition to the CPP retirement pension that the applicant is receiving, until the age of 65.
  • If they have any dependent children, a disabled contributor’s child benefit is payable. CPP benefits may affect the income they receive from other programs.
