Apply through email

  1. To apply for Barley Dealer Licence through email, the applicant has to send an email application to the Licensing and Security Department of Canadian Grain Commission.

  3. First, the applicant has to click the following link and download the Grain dealer license application form
  4. The applicant can complete the application form either manually by printing it or electronically on his/her computer itself.
  5. The applicant has to complete the application form with all the required details and information. Then, the application should be attested with his/her signature.
  6. After that, the applicant has to make scanned copies of the completed application and all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  7. In case of applications completed online, the applicants can send the soft copy (PDF format) of the application and scanned copies of required documents to the above-mentioned email address.
  8. Upon receipt of the application, the Licensing Department will review the submitted information.
  9. Once the draft grain receipt and draft cash purchase ticket have been reviewed and approved, the Canadian Grain Commission will request a voided, numbered grain receipt and cash purchase ticket.
  10. The applicant should submit the same through email. The Canadian Grain Commission will be in contact with the applicant during the application process, and will work with him/her to complete the application process.
  11. Required amount of security for the applicant’s company will be informed to the applicant after the review of his/her financial statements.
  12. Upon receipt of the required security, the Commission will notify the applicant about the required fees (with respect to the term) to be paid for the license.
  13. The fees can be paid by cheque, American Express, MasterCard or Visa. Cheques for the fees should be payable to the Receiver General for Canada.
  14. The cheques should be mailed to the above-mentioned mailing address.
  15. On receipt of the fees payment, the license will be sent in PDF format to the applicant’s email address. Within three days, the company will be listed as a licensed grain company on the Commission’s website.


Apply through mail

  1. To apply for Barley Dealer Licence through mail, the applicant has to send a paper application to the Licensing and Security Department of Canadian Grain Commission.

  • Before applying for a grain company licence, the Canadian Grain Commission would determine if the grain company must be licensed. To determine that, the applicant has to complete and submit a Mode of Operations form.
  • If the company is deemed to be licensed, the Canadian Grain Commission will determine what class of licence the company is suitable for and notify it to the applicant. Refer the following link for more details inquiry about licenses link
  • The Canadian Grain Commission needs different documentation if the applicant company needs a grain dealer or primary, process or terminal elevator licence.
  • So, the business name as incorporated or registered must be consistent on all the application documents. Inaccurate or missing information may delay issuance of the licence.
  • The Canadian Grain Commission will work with the applicant to help submitting all the information needed to issue the licence. Keep a copy of the completed forms on file for future reference.
