Procedure

• To be eligible you must be 18 years and above
• Visit your nearest registered driving school
• Complete application forms
• Submit your valid identity document or passport
• Apply for temporary permit with Rwanda Revenue Authority
• To register for a temporary driving permit , one need to write his / her name identity card number, leave space, write the name of the district where the identity card was issued , leave a space, write letter P, leave space again, write 0 and sent to 3126
• For driving permit, the applicants need to write their identity card number, leave a space, write the name of the district where the it was issued, leave space, write category of their current driving permit, leave a space again , write the number , and send to 3126.

Eligibility

• To be eligible you must be at least 18 years and above
• You must have undergone through training in registered driving school
• Apply for provisional driving permit for a period of about three(3)month with Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA)

Fees

• Application fee- Rwf 50,00 for written test to obtain a temporary license
• Rwf 50,00 for practical test to obtain full license
• License fee- Rwf 50,000 for printed license both written and practical exam

Validity

The training is approximately one month but there is a provision for extension to the slow learners. Driving license validity 5 years renewable

The maximum processing time to acquire a driving permit in Rwanda is two (2) months.

• You must be of sound health especially sight hence medical examination is required

Before one starts driving on the Rwandan soil he or she is required to have a valid driving permit. This indicates that the owner has under gone relevant training on road safety and usage in Rwanda. This helps minimize accidents and eases tracking in case of an accident.
Persons who wish to register for a driving permit test in Rwanda can now do that using mobile telephones.
