Russia - Obtain a Pet Passport

- Your veterinarian can assist you in creating a pet passport for your pet to travel to most countries in the world.
- This certificate typically consists of proof of rabies immunization and blood tests to validate the presence of rabies antibodies.
- Vet at the country of origin has to check and endorse the pet passport/vaccination record not later than 5 days prior departure. Vaccines against rabies and feline / canine diseases must have been given within the past 12 months, but not within 30 days prior to departure.
- You need to plan in advance if you wish to travel with a pet overseas as the dog, cat or ferret will have to be up to date with all his regular vaccinations. The pets also need to be micro chipped and have had the correct blood tests plus be wormed and protected against ticks. You need to allow at least six months for these procedures before travelling.
- Russia requires imported pets to have an international pet passport. Such passports can be obtained at veterinary clinics and basically say that your pet has a clean bill of health. Upon entering Russia, you will need to register your pet with customs officials and pay a small registration fee. You should be aware that Russian dormitories do not allow pets in any form, so it is likely that you will have to find other living arrangements with your pet.
Required DocumentsEdit
Health report, which is issued by any state veterinary clinic (Veterinary certificate, form No.1). The report shall contain information about age vaccinations. The last hydrophobia vaccination shall be made not earlier than one year and not later than two months prior the flight.
A certificate from a club (Union of Cynologique Organizations of Russia or Russian Cynologique Association), confirming that the dog has no breeding value. Certificates from other clubs may not be accepted by the customs.

In accordance with the order of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia from 16.11.2006 ? 422 veterinary accompanying documents are issued for all kinds of animals to be transported. Therefore, to move animals through the territory of the Russian Federation and export to CIS countries is necessary to issue a veterinary certificate form number 1 in the institutions subordinated to the executive authorities of the Russian Federation in the field of veterinary medicine.
Avoiding quarantine or delays are the border while traveling with a pet is made much easier when you have your Pet Passport complete with up to date and accurate information for the destination of your trip.

Good veterinary clinics/veterinarians in Russia provide pet owners with pet passports that look very similar to passports for people. These passports are bi-lingual (Russian and English) or tri-lingual (Russian, English, and French) and contain information on your cat/dog and all administered vaccinations. There is also space for a photo of your pet. EU countries issue so-called EU passports for pets, while other countries may issue different documents verifying your pets vaccination status. The form of the document is not important, as long as it clearly shows when your cat/dog was vaccinated and which vaccine was used.

Obtain a health certificate from your veterinarian or veterinary agency in your origin country before departure. Depending on the export regulations in your origin country, this certificate will be issued anywhere from ten (10) to three (3) days before your pets departure. Note that in some countries (including Russia) the pet passport issued by the local vet or veterinary agency must be exchanged for an international health certificate at the airport of departure. An English-language health certificate is normally acceptable for entry into any country.
