Procedure

• Visit the concerned authority.
• Submit all the necessary documents.
• Pay the applicable fees.

Required Documents

• Previous passport, if any;
• Original proof of payment of fees and charges for issuing the passport provided by law, on behalf of the holder
• Original civil status certificates
• Document issued by the home state of the original along with Romanian translations, where applicable, showing one of the following situations:
  • has acquired a right of residence for at least one year or, where applicable, was successively extended right of residence within a year, within the State,
  • has acquired a right of residence in that State in order family reunification with a person residing in the territory of that State;
  • has acquired a long stay or, where appropriate, a right of permanent residence in its territory;
  • has acquired citizenship of that state;
  • acquired a right to work or is enrolled in a private or public establishment for the principal purpose of studying, including training,
  • obtained a registration certificate or document certifying residence in a Member State of the European Union or the European Economic Area.

Eligibility

Romanian national who has established residence abroad can apply for a simple electronic or temporary passport indicating the state of residence.

Fees

For simple electronic passport:

• Passport cost 270 (payable in units of CEC Bank)
• Consular fee 32 (payable in units of CEC Bank or the Treasury)

For temporary passport:

• Passport cost 100 (to be paid at CEC Bank units)
• Consular fee 32 (payable in units of CEC Bank or the Treasury)
• Surcharge of 100 provided for by Law 248/2005 (to be paid in units of CEC Bank or the Treasury)

Validity

• The validity of the simple electronic passport is 5 years.
• The validity of the temporary passport is 12 months
