Rajasthan - Renew Driver License Obtained from Another State

ProcedureEdit

  • Renewal of driving license for the one obtained from another state can be processed with the NOC obtained from home state RTO. - (Please check with local RTO whether NOC is required before processing)
  • As a first step, get a NOC (No Objection Letter) from the RTO that issued the license initially
(a). Applicant can get the NOC on directly applying in his home town RTO
(b). If it is not possible to go to the issuing RTO physically, send a letter requesting for NOC. Please send it using either India Post's *Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due or through Speed Post with Acknowledgement Due. You will receive the acknowledgement confirming that the letter has been received by the RTO (that issued the license).
  • Retain the following -
(i) Copy of the NOC request letter
(ii) The acknowledgement slip/card that you received via regular post/mail

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for renewal of driver license from another state in Rajasthan, the applicant has to approach the RTO office of the area.
  2. Information related to the RTO offices and registering authority can be obtained from the “Office and Location” Section of this page.
  3. You will have to submit Application in Form No.9 in front of licensing authority.
  4. Application form no. 9 can be downloaded from following link: form 9
  5. If the driving license is from another state you will have to provide NOC from the state the DL is furnished.
  6. If the applicant is above 40 years of age, he needs to submit Physical fitness declaration form Physical fitness declaration form and Medical certificate form 1A: Medical certificate form 1A along with the application form.
  7. The applicant should make sure they are eligible for applying for driver license by reading through the eligibility criteria that has been listed out under the “Eligibility” section of this page.
  8. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  9. Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  10. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.

  1. You can also apply to renew driver license online via state portal: Link
  2. Select the 'online application submission facility for license' option at the Transport Department's web site.
  3. you will be redirected to new page Online Portal
  4. Click on “Apply”
  5. You will be redirected to the national portal page where you can apply as explained below.

Apply Online via National Portal

  1. To Renew Driver License Obtained from Another State, the applicant can make the application online via the following link link
  2. The applicant has to click “Drivers/ Learners License” and select the respective state from the drop-down menu.
  3. On the next tab, the applicant has to click “DL Renewal” and read the instructions and click “Continue”
  4. Next the applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  5. Make sure that the applicant has to upload all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. Review the application and click “Submit”
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. An acknowledgment receipt will be displayed. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
  9. Next the applicant should book the slot and visit the office on the respective date.
  10. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.

  5. Three copies of passport photographs.

EligibilityEdit

  • Person whose driving license is from another state and it is about to expire or who holds a expired driving license from another state, not more than 30 days is eligible. However, you can request for renewal even after 30 days after paying a penalty.

  • Renewal of a driving licence for which application is made after the grace period
  • Note:- Additional fee at the rate of one thousand rupees for delay of each year or part thereof reckoned from the date of expiry of the grace period shall be levied. 300.00

  • The DL will be renewed for 5 years if it is for a Non-Transport Vehicle, and for 3 years if it being renewed for a transport vehicles.

Processing TimeEdit

  • One can get the renewed driving licence on the same evening that is if the licence is procured in the same office. It needs a period of 20 days after the application has been submitted, if the case is any different, for example initial driving license issued from other state. The latter takes longer as it involves a process of verification and correspondence.

  • If the licence has been initially obtained from another state, then the applicant should furnish a No Objection Certificate (N.O.C.) and confirmation of driving licence issued by the original licensing authority.
  • Applicant should select the correct State / RTO as per his new address and apply for a change of address with proof of current address.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • As per the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is mandatory for drivers of any vehicle to hold a valid driving licence to drive a vehicle on the road. A Driving licence is an official document issued by the government, which authorises an individual to drive a category of vehicle for which he holds a licence. It is a must to renew your DL after its expiry because as per the law nobody in India can drive any vehicle without a valid DL.

  2. As per Section 177 of the Motor Act, 1988, if a person is driving a vehicle without a valid DL (i.e an expired DL), is a punishable offence by law. Violators of the same are liable to be fined. An expired driving licence is valid only for a month (i.e 30 days) post expiration and can needs to be renewed within that grace period. If your driving licence has expired more than 30 days ago, you can renew the same by paying a penalty. This holds true if only the application requesting a renewed DL is made within a time span of five years from the date of expiry. If the licence has been initially obtained from another state, then the applicant should furnish a No Objection Certificate (N.O.C.) and confirmation of driving licence issued by the original licensing authority.
  3. As per Section 9 (a)(i) of Motor Vehicles Act 1988, one can get his driving license renewed provided the applicant has previously held a driving license to drive such class of vehicle and that the period between the date of expiry of that license and the date of application does not exceed five years.
  4. Further, as per Section 8 (1) (i) of the said act, he can apply to the licensing authority having jurisdiction in the area in which he ordinarily resides or carries on business.
  5. Application for renewal of driving license can be made within 30 days from the date of expiry of driving license.
