Apply Online

  1. To apply for a Food Handling Permit or License (Regional Health Authority), the applicant will need to complete a course with the Canadian Institute of Food Safety (CIFA). Here is the contact Link
  2. The applicant will need to enrol on the course. Here is the link to the course Link
  3. On the right side of the page, click on the “Start online now….30 seconds” option.
  4. The applicant will need to select if the course is for an individual or for a business. Select the province or territory and click on “Proceed to checkout”.
  5. The applicant will need to pay a fee to enrol for the course. Find further information under the “Fees” section of this page.
  6. Once the applicant makes the fee payment, they can begin the course.
  7. The applicant will need to finish the course within 30 days after which they will need to attend an exam. Find further information under the “Instructions” section of this page.
  8. Once the applicant passes the exam, they will receive their certificate within 60 minutes.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person can apply for the food handler permit by enrolling in the course.
  • Ideally, the applicant must be working in the food business.

  • The applicant needs to pay a fee of $99.95 (plus GST/HST) to obtain the food handler permit.

  • The applicant can attend the test online unlimited times.
  • The CIFA course test will be a proctored test.
  • The final exam has 50 multiple choice questions and a 60-minute time limit. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the exam.
