Procedure

Apply In Person:

1. To Apply for Marriage assistance for Legally Married Transgender Couples, the applicant has to approach their respective District Social Justice Offices link
2. The applicant can obtain the application form from the concerned officer.
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned District Social Justice Officer.
7. The fee for this Marriage assistance for Legally Married Transgender Couples is free of cost.
8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
11. Once the process is completed successfully, the applicant gets the scheme amount.

Need for the Document

• Social Justice Department has formulated a scheme which provides Marriage assistance for Legally Married Transgender Couples. The maximum amount of financial assistance will be up to Rs. 30,000.
• This scheme is intended to help the deprived transgender individuals who are planning to get married legally to lead a steady normal family life.

Information which might help

• It is for the first time in the country that two transgender individuals, who have undergone sex change surgery, got married under Special Marriage Act. But the welfare schemes under this Act do not cover transgender individuals who are legally married after sex change surgery. Hence the Department has introduced a new scheme which provides marriage assistance for legally married transgender couples who have underwent Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS).
