Replacing your passport
In case of change or there is a need to rectify the data stated in the passport specially if the change refers to the name, surname, date and place of birth, gender, or social security number of the holder, a replacement passport must be obtained immediately.
This must be done no later than 30 days from the date of delivery of the final decision administrative or final court judgment confirming the change or the preparation of a marriage certificate stating the name change, in the case of marriage contracted before a consul or a foreign body - from the date of service of a copy of the marriage certificate.
In cases the passport already expired when the change happened:
- after 60 days of delivery of a final administrative decision or a final court judgment confirming the change of data, or preparation of the marriage certificate stating the name change;
- after the expiry of four months from the date of service of a copy of the marriage certificate in the case of marriage contracted before a consul or a foreign body.
Lost passport
Individuals who had lost or damaged their passport, are obliged to immediately notify the passport authority who issued the document or the passport authority whose jurisdiction covers the place of residence of the passport holder and a replacement passport must obtain.
In case the lost passport was found after a new one was issued, a refund is not possible. The person who found his/her own passport document previously reported as lost, is obliged to return it to the competent local passport authority. The obligation to return the passport document occurs regardless of whether the person already has a new document issued in lieu of the lost, or whether to issue a new document did not exist.
Any person who found somebody elses passport, is required to forward the document to the nearest passport authority, the police or other public authority who will be the one to forward the passport to the issuing authority.

- an abbreviated or unabbreviated copy of birth certificate in the case of the first passport application
- an abbreviated copy of a marriage certificate if the applicant (parent) got married abroad
- a receipt of payment of the passport fee

The time for passport issue is specified by the authority issuing the passport. An average waiting time for the document issued in the country does not exceed 30 days.

Need for the DocumentEdit
A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains information about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.
This document does not in itself entitle the passport holder entry into another country, nor consular protection while abroad nor any other privileges. However, it does normally allows the passport holder to return to the country where the passport was issued.
Rights to consular protection arises from international treaties, while the holder's return to the issuing country depends on the laws prevailing in that country.
