Need for the DocumentEdit
- A foreign national holding a valid immigrant or non-immigrant visa (such as a 9(g) work visas) and wishing to leave the Philippines for good, is required to downgrade their visas to a 9(a) temporary visitor visa, cancel their ACR I-Card and obtain an Emigration Clearance Certificate (ECC).
Information which might helpEdit
- Companies in the Philippines wishing to terminate the employment of a 9(g) visa holder for any reason, including the expiry of the employment contract, usually submit an application to downgrade the employee’s visa to a 9(a) temporary visitor visa. This ends the legal employer-employee relationship, and means the foreign national can no longer work but has more time to secure another job or travel as a tourist before leaving the country.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
Please explain what are other uses for obtaining this document/certificate. e.g. Birth Certificate can be used as proof of identity.

OthersEdit
- ACR I-cards are identification cards that contain personal information, including biometric data. The cards are used as re-entry permits, but do not replace the need for passports or visas when required. Work visa holders are required to cancel their ACR I-cards when they complete an assignment in the Philippines. They are supposed to cancel their visas upon leaving as well, but under the change they will not be able to cancel their ACR I-cards without first cancelling or downgrading their visa to a visit visa.
