Papua New Guinea - Citizenship by Naturalization

ProcedureEdit

Complete all the necessary forms, you may use the link provided under 'Documents to Use' section to the download the forms.
Submit the completed forms to the Immigration Office together with all other required documents (see list below).
Pay the application fee.

Required DocumentsEdit

An applicant for Citizenship must provide the following:

four (4) passport size photographs;
four (4) references from automatic Papua New Guinea Citizens who have known the applicant for at least two (2) years, certifying as to the character and suitability of the applicant for citizenship;
a copy of the applicant's Birth and Marriage Certificate (if applicable);
copies of educational qualifications e.g. Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Masters, etc.; and
a Statement of Assets, Liabilities, Investments, business interests and savings accounts both within and outside Papua new Guinea, indicating their values and locations. (These details will be kept in strict confidence).

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible for naturalization, a person must:

be of good character;
intend to reside permanently in the country;
unless prevented by physical or mental disability, be able to speak and understand Tok Pisin or Hiri Motu, or a vernacular of the country, sufficiently for normal conversational purpose;
have a respect for the customs and cultures of the country;
be unlikely to be or become a charge on public funds;
have a reasonable knowledge and understanding of the rights, privileges, responsibilities and duties of citizenship; and
renounce in such manner as is prescribed by or under an Act of Parliament, any other citizenship and make the Declaration of Loyalty.

Note: If an applicant for naturalization so requests, any child of the applicant who is under voting age at the time when the applicant is naturalized becomes a citizen by naturalization on the naturalization of the applicant.

The amount must be paid at the Vulupindi Haus, Ground floor.

InstructionsEdit

To apply for citizenship by naturalization you must complete these three forms:

Application for PNG Citizenship Form;
Application for Citizenship by Naturalization Form; and
The Personal Particulars Form.

Inclusion of Children in Application

Children may be included in a parent's application for citizenship provided that the children are under seventeen (17) years of age at the time of application.

Children of seventeen (17) years and over must submit a separate application for citizenship by naturalization.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A person who has resided continuously in Papua New Guinea for at least eight (8) years may apply to be a citizen of the country through naturalization.
