Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Wage Earner Protection Program in person, the applicant has to visit the Service Canada office.
  2. Links containing address and contact details of the Service Canada offices in Ontario can be found in the following contact link
  3. The applicant has to visit the nearest Service Canada Office and obtain an application form for Wage Earner Protection Program from the relevant department.
  4. The applicant should have the information listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page, when he/she visits the office.
  5. The applicant should complete the application form with respect to the requirement, by filling all the details under respective fields.
  6. The representative of the applicant will have to complete a Consent to Communicate form, separately: consent form
  7. After completing, the applicant will have to attest the form and attach all the required documents with the application form.
  8. Then, he/she should submit the application package to the relevant official at the Service Canada office.
  9. The applicant can also mail the application package to the following mail address: WEPP Processing Centre, PO Box 5900.
  10. After that, the request will be processed and the submitted information will be assessed and verified by the relevant officials.
  11. Once all the necessary processes are over, the applicant and the trustee/receiver is issued with a letter of decision through any applicable means which will contain the details about the payment, within 35 days.
  12. A letter is also issued to both parties if the application is denied. If the applicant disagrees with the Service Canada's decision regarding his/her eligibility, they can request a Ministerial review of the decision.

  1. To apply for Wage Earner Protection Program online, the applicant has to visit the following link apply online
  2. Visit the link, scroll down and click “Apply Online” option to open the online application form.
  3. Read the instructions in the next page and proceed by entering the required details in the relevant fields. Then click “Continue” button.
  4. Similarly, complete the further steps and click “Continue” button. Further, follow the onscreen instructions and complete the other steps also.
  5. Click an applicable button and submit the application form.
  6. After that, the request will be processed and the submitted information will be assessed and verified by the relevant officials.
  7. Once all the necessary processes are over, the applicant and the trustee/receiver is issued with a letter of decision through any applicable means which will contain the details about the payment, within 35 days.

  • Any person in Canada whose employment has ended or whose former employer has filed for bankruptcy, is subject to a receivership, or other WEPP qualifying insolvency proceedings, can apply.
  • Any person in Canada who was owed wages, vacation pay, termination pay or severance pay from the former employer, can apply.

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Service Canada is strongly encouraging the applicants to apply for these benefits online. Online applications must be completed in full.
  • Please note that the user cannot save a partially completed online application. If the applicant mistakenly saved an incomplete application, they must start over and re-enter all of their information.
  • Service Canada recommends the users sign up for direct deposit to ensure seamless delivery of their payment.
  • Note that there may be a delay in processing the application if Service Canada has not received the required information from the trustee/receiver.

Need for the DocumentEdit

The Wage Earner Protection Program (WEPP) is a Government of Canada program that provides timely payment of eligible wages owing to workers whose employer has gone bankrupt or become subject to receivership. Eligible wages under the Program include salaries, commissions, vacation, termination and severance pay.


Information which might helpEdit

  • Applications must be submitted to Service Canada within 56 days of either from the date of bankruptcy or receivership or from the date the applicant’s employment ended.
  • Extensions may be granted if circumstances beyond the applicant’s control prevent them from filing within the prescribed time frame. A written explanation for the delay must be provided.
  • If the applicant’s former employer went through restructuring before declaring bankruptcy or going under receivership, the eligibility period in which the amounts must be earned and in which employment has to end starts six months before the restructuring event and ends on the date of bankruptcy or receivership.
  • The maximum amount the applicant can receive under the program is an amount equalling seven weeks' maximum insurable earnings under the Employment Insurance Act, less amounts that are prescribed by WEPP regulations.
