Apply In-Person:
- To apply for Potato Dealer License in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission.
- The address and contact details of the Commission can be found in the following Contact link
- The applicant has to visit the office and obtain a Potato Processor/Dealer Licence Application Form from the respective department.
- The application form can also found in the following page Application form
- The applicant can complete the application form online and take a print out of the completed form for submission.
- While visiting the office, the applicant has to bring all the necessary documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to complete the license application form with the relevant details and information in the respective fields.
- After completing the application form, attach all the required documents with the completed application form.
- Then, submit the application form and attached documents to the relevant official at the Commission.
- The applicant does not have to pay any processing cost for the license.
- Upon receipt of the application, the designated marketing board will be asked to notify the Commission whether it has any objections to the licensing of the applicant based on the licensing criteria.
- If objections are received, a hearing will be held to consider whether a licence should be issued.
- If the hearing ends in favour of the applicant, the applicant will be issued a Potato Dealer License, with prior notification.
- The applicant may be notified through telephone or email or any applicable means. After receiving the notice, the applicant should collect the license through any applicable means.
Apply through mail
- To apply for Potato Dealer License through mail, the applicant has to send an application to the mailing address of the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission.
- The mailing address is as follows: Farm Products Marketing Commission, Attn: Secretary to the Commission, 5SW, 1 Stone Road West, Guelph, Ontario N1G 4Y2.
- The applicant has to first complete the application form in the following Application form
- The applicant can complete the application form online and take a print out of the completed form for submission.
- Make sure that all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page, are available.
- The applicant has to complete the license application form with relevant details and information in respective fields.
- After completing the application form, attach all the required documents with the completed application form.
- Then, send the application form and attached documents to the Secretary of the Commission by a safe and secure mail service through the above mentioned mailing address.
- The applicant does not have to pay any processing cost for the license.

In order to legally involve in the potato dealership business inside Ontario, a company or business entity must possess a Potato Dealer License obtained from the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission.

- Potato Dealers who involves in processing without a licence is a contravention of the Farm Products Marketing Act and Regulations.
- Only the fruits and vegetables listed on the application form requires a processor licence from the Farm Products Marketing Commission.
- Processor licences are normally issued for a five year term, this licence will continue unless the processor fails to comply with the licensing criteria, ceases operation, or there is a change in the ownership of the assets of the company.
- In the latter two cases, the existing licence must be surrendered, and the new operator must apply for a licence.
- If there are indications that a processor is not in compliance with the licensing criteria, the licence can be reviewed at any time.
