Step – 1 Course Completion

  1. Before Applying for a Physical Therapy Assistant License, Complete an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program in Canada.
  2. These programs are typically offered by colleges, universities, and medical institutions.
  3. The education should meet the standards set by the regulatory body.
  4. They combine classroom education with hands-on clinical training.
  5. Complete the required clinical hours as part of your PTA program. This practical experience is essential for gaining hands-on skills.

Step – 2 Examination

  1. Successfully graduate from your Physical Therapy Assistant program with a degree or certificate in radiologic technology.
  2. The applicant may be required to pass a national competency exam, such as the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE) administered by the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators.
  3. This typically includes completing an accredited program and meeting certain ethics requirements.



Step – 3 License

  1. After completing the exam successfully, the applicant has to approach the respective institution.
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  10. Undergo a criminal record check or provide a criminal record clearance certificate, as required by the regulatory body or college.
  11. This is to ensure that you have a clean criminal record and meet the standards of professional conduct and safety.
  12. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  13. Once the process is completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  14. If the application is approved, the applicant will receive the License from the regulatory body or college.
  15. This entire process can be completed within 15 - 20 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
