PROCESS FOR CITIZENS AND NON CITIZENS OF OMAN – FOR BOTH WHO LIVE IN OMAN AND OVERSEAS:
I. Applying in Oman
Certificates are only available to non citizens who have lived in Oman for six months or more.
a. Apply In Person (Citizenship Certificate)

  1. To Obtain a Police Clearance Certificate, the applicant has to approach the Royal Oman Police – link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The fee for this clearance certificate is mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. #If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  10. Also, set the fingerprint in the request paper from the police office.
  11. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  13. The applicant has to visit the office to get the clearance certificate.
  14. This entire process can be completed within 10 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.


II. Applying process in overseas
a. Through mail(post)
  1. You will have to complete an application in writing specifying the need along with the required documents and fess as acceptable(mail it to address provided below).
  2. This application will be processed to issue the Good Conduct certificate as per notification.

b. Apply In-Person
  1. Go back to Oman, to apply in person at the Director of Criminal Investigations. Contact information provided in this link will help to get the address.: link
  2. Applicant has to write an application for the request, attach required documents and submit it to the respective official along with the advised fees.
  3. This application after acceptance will be processed internally.
  4. Once the certificate is ready, user can collect it from the respective office as per notification.
Note:
If you assign a representative to apply on your behalf, he/she will need to bring:
  • Your completed application form
  • Authorization letter to apply on your behalf.
  • A copy of your passport, including the pages containing previous residence stamps for the time you stayed in Oman (if you have a new passport, copy the pages that have the bio-data information, the issue date and the expiry date)
  • Original fingerprints
  • Two photographs (4x4 cm) with a blue background

PROCESS FOR CITIZENS OF OMAN – FOR THOSE WHO LIVE OVERSEAS:

Applying process - overseas
a. Through Omani Embassy or Consulate abroad.

  • The amount to be credited should be (US $56.00) equivalent to (RO 21.500) Omani Reyal (Not Cheque \ Draft , Certificate and Postage charges).

EligibilityEdit

  • Applicant with valid passport and a valid address proof.
  • Age: 16 years and above. In case of minors, the application must be submitted by the parent exercising parental authority, if the minor has not turned 16 years.
  • The current address of the applicant must be same as in the passport and other supporting documents.
  • Applicants who are in need of residential status, employment or long term visa or for immigration to a foreign nation.

  • For resident expatriate: RO 20.000.
  • For foreigners staying outside the sultanate: RO 21.500.

Local Requests

  • You must apply in person at the Director of Criminal Investigation.
  • You need to submit the required documents.

Non-Resident Requests Former residents may either:

  • return to Oman to apply for the police clearance certificate in person; OR
  • send a representative to apply the police clearance certificate on their behalf; OR
  • send the request by mail.

If you are applying in person or if you assign a representative to apply on your behalf, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • a copy of your passport, including the pages containing previous residence stamps for the period you stayed in Oman;
  • in the case of a new passport, a copy of the pages which contain the bio-data information, the issue and the expiry dates;
  • two photographs (4x4 cm) with a blue background; and
  • payment of the RO 3.000 fee (subject to change).

If you are sending your request by mail, please provide:

  • a letter indicating your name and mailing address;
  • two photographs (4x4 cm) with a blue background; and
  • a copy of your passport, including the pages containing previous residence stamps for the period you stayed in Oman;
  • a transfer of funds for $56.00 US or its equivalent to the Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal investigations account number 3106-453888-500, Oman Arab Bank, Qurum Branch; and confirmation of the deposit.

Information which might helpEdit

Current residents of Oman needing a Good Conduct Certificate (GCC) should contact the Directorate General of Criminal Investigation (Royal Oman Police) in their area of residence with the following documents:

  • original, completed application form; this form is only available from the Directorate General of Criminal Investigation
  • no-objection letter from the employer/local sponsor in Oman
  • four passport-sized photographs taken on a blue background
  • copy of the applicant's passport with the Omani visa
  • copy of applicant's resident card

processing fee, in cash, of Rial Omani 3.00

Former residents of Oman may apply for a GCC by providing the following documents:

  • cover letter from the applicant requesting why he/she needs a GCC certificate, name of the employer/local sponsor who employed the applicant, and period of employment in Oman
  • original, completed application form; the consular section at the Embassy Muscat will mail this form to the applicant, if requested via email
  • letter from the Embassy or Consulate, where the immigrant visa case is being processed, stating the reason the certificate is required
  • no-objection letter from the employer/local sponsor in Oman
  • set of fingerprints, duly certified by the concerned authority in the country where the applicant resides
  • four passport-sized photographs taken on a blue background
  • copy of the applicant's passport with the Omani visa
  • processing fee, in cash, of Rial Omani 20.00

Former residents may submit the above documents in one of four ways:

  • directly to the Omani Embassy/Consulate where the applicant resides; the Omani Embassy/Consulate will send the documents to the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which, in turn, will forward them to the Directorate General of Criminal Investigation
  • if there is no Omani Embassy/Consulate in the country where the applicant resides, the applicant may send the documents to the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs at: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Attn: Protocol Department, P.O. Box 252, Muscat 113, Sultanate of Oman
  • the Directorate General of Criminal Investigation will also accept documents sent from the applicant via a courier service at: Directorate General of Criminal Investigation, Royal Oman Police, Qurum, Muscat, Oman, tel: 00968-2456-9496; the applicant should coordinate delivery and collection with the courier company;
  • for faster processing, former residents may wish to seek the assistance of a relative, friend, or previous employer in Oman to contact in-person and obtain the Omani GCC directly from the Directorate General of Criminal Investigation.....
