ProcedureEdit

1.) Submit three 4 X 6 coloured photographs with front view of the face against blue background in the national dress (Dishdasha and Turban) for males, children below the age of (15) fifteen years old are exempted from wearing the Turban and the Dishdasha. The name of the applicant must be written on the backside of the photograph.

2.) Present the original along with a copy of all documents required.

3.) An applicant who is over 18 years of age must process his application through the Shaikh, Wali and the Ministry of Interior/Governorate. Holders of identity cards are exempted from such practice.

4.) If the son reaches (15) fifteen years old, he should apply first for the identity card, and subsequently apply for the passport presenting the original identity card along with a copy.

Required DocumentsEdit

1.) 2.) Original passports of both parents, and their conformed copies

3.) In cases where parents' passports are not available or where parents have passed away, the applicant must produce a verification of the applicant's relationship from the Shaikh, Wali of the area and Ministry of Interior and bring the original passport of a relative from the part of the father (e.g.. brother, uncle, or cousin) or the demise certificates according to the cases.

4.) The original and a copy of the birth certificate

5.) If the applicant is below eighteen (18) years old there must be a guardian's written approval stating their no-objection to the issuing of passport to his (son, daughter) and a copy of the father's identity card.

6.) A married woman must present the original passports of her parents and her husband and a letter of no-objection from the husband to her obtaining the passport; and the original and a copy of the marriage certificate.

7.) If the applicant's mother is a non-Omani, a certificate of proof of the marriage issued by the Ministry of Interior must be presented along with a copy. Exemptions apply for those married to citizens from the Gulf Cooperation Council states.

8.) The original and a copy of the identity card if the applicant is fifteen (15) years old.

The Directorate of General Passports and Residence carry out all works relating to passports, identity cards, visas, residence permits, and road permits etc. It provides its services at airports, sea ports and border posts as well as from its main office at the ROP Force Headquarters and the regional sections.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains informations about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.

This document does not in itself entitle the passport holder entry into another country, nor consular protection while abroad nor any other privileges. However, it does normally allows the passport holder to return to the country where the passport was issued. Rights to consular protection arises from international treaties, while the holder's return to the issuing country depends on the laws prevailing in that country.
