Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for Farm Fuel Tax Exemption Certificate in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest Service Nova Scotia office.
2. The address and contact details can be found in the following Contact link
3. The applicant has to visit the office and obtain the application form for Consumer’s Exemption Permit, from the relevant department.
4. While visiting the office, the applicants should carry the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to complete the application with required details in respective fields under each section.
6. After that, the applicant should attach the required documents with the completed form and submit it to the relevant official.
7. Then, the applicant should pay the required fees of 93.40 dollars through any of the available payment modes.
8. Then, the submitted application and attached documents will be assessed and verified.
9. Within two weeks, upon completion of the assessment and verification, the applicant will be intimated through phone or email to collect the approved Consumer’s Exemption Permit.

1. To apply for Consumer’s Exemption Permit online, the applicant has to visit the following Apply online link
2. Visit the link and click “Create account” button to create a new account. Click “Continue” button in the next page.
3. Complete each section by providing the details required and clicking the applicable buttons to complete creating the account.
4. A confirmation code would have been sent to the applicant’s email address and they have to enter it in the field in the Email confirmation page.
5. After confirming, click “Continue to Nova Scotia’s Online Service” button. Accept the terms and conditions in the next page and click “Save Service Settings” button.
6. Search for the application form by clicking the “Search for licences, permits and programs” button and click on it. Click “Start” button in the next page.
7. Complete the online application by entering the required fields in the relevant fields and proceed to pay the required fees by clicking the “Pay” button, after completing the form.
8. Pay the fees by following the onscreen instructions and the submitted application and attached documents will be assessed and verified.
9. Within two weeks, upon completion of the assessment and verification, the applicant will be intimated through phone or email to collect the approved Consumer’s Exemption Permit.

Eligibility

• Any Farm producer in Nova Scotia, that wishes to get exemption from the Farm Fuel Tax, can apply.
• They must be actively and directly farming by controlling farming assets and making the day-to-day management decisions.
• They must have annual farm commodity production worth at least $10,000 or $5,000 to $9,999 if the only other significant sources of income are Canada Pension Plan or Old Age Security.

Fees

• The applicant has to pay 93.40 dollars for obtaining the permit.

Validity

• The permit is valid for 3 years.
