Apply In-Person:
- To apply for Farm Development Leases (FDL) in person, the applicant has to visit the office of Department of Natural Resources and Renewables nearest to their location.
- Address and Contact details of the offices can be found in the following Contact link
- The applicant has to visit the office as applicable and obtain an Application for Farm Development Leases (FDL) from the respective department.
- While visiting the office, the applicants should carry the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to complete the application with required details in respective fields under each section and submit it to the relevant official with the required documents.
- The applicant has to pay the non-refundable Assignment fees of $3150 (no GST) for the approval of lease, as cheque, money order or any other available payment modes.
- Then, the submitted application and attached documents will be assessed and verified.
- Upon completion of the assessment and verification, the applicant will be intimated through phone or email to collect the approved Farm Development Lease.

EligibilityEdit
- Any farmer in Nova Scotia, who wishes to use public land for agricultural development, including cultivation, haying and grazing, can apply.
- The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant 19 years of age or older.
- The applicant must be engaged in the operation of the farm or ranch.
FeesEdit
- The applicant has to pay the non-refundable Assignment fees of $3150 (no GST) for the approval of lease, as cheque, money order or any other available payment modes.
ValidityEdit
- Farm Development Leases are issued for a maximum of 10 years.
