ProcedureEdit

  • Norwegian Driving licenses under categories A, A1, B, B1, BE, M, S and T normally have lifelong validity, they may remain valid up to the age of 100. In some cases the validity may be limited to a shorter period (criminal record, poor health, no test of night driving). However, once the holder reaches the age of 70, the validity of the driving licence will depend on his/her physical capability to operate a vehicle, a medical certificate will have to submitted during the renewal process.
  • A medical certificate has a validity of from one to five years, depending on your state of health.
  • Norwegian Driving licenses under categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE for heavy vehicles are valid for a limited period, normally five years. From the age of 70, the period of validity is one year. The driving license may also be valid for a limited period for health reasons, or because the driver has not carried out the whole programme of mandatory driver training needed for the issuance of the driving licence.
  • If you have a driving licence in a category without lifelong validity, you must renew your driving license before its validity expires, if you want to maintain your driving entitlements without interruption. When renewing your licence, you must produce a valid medical certificate, Form NA - 0202, which should be no more than six months old.
  • If you renew your licence more than one year after the expiry date, you must pass a new practical driving test in addition to submitting a health certificate. If you want to renew more than one license category, the driving test must be taken in the most comprehensive category.

Note: If you have not taken the entire programme of obligatory driver training and lack the night driving course (all categories) or the safety course on a skid pan (Category C, CE or D) you are not required to take a new driving test. However, you must document that you have completed these courses when renewing your licence.
