Norway - Obtain Hunting License Card

For applicants who permanently live abroad
- To obtain a hunting license, you must send your foreign hunting license and your name, date of birth and postal address to the Norwegian Register of Hunters.
- You must send your documents must by e-mail, fax or letter well in advance of your planned hunting trip.
- Pay the hunting license fee to the Wildlife Fund (Viltfondet). The fee must be paid before you will be allowed to hunt, but it does not confer the right to hunt in any terrain. The hunting license fee covers an entire hunting season (1 April to 31 March).
- The hunting license fee payment slips are mailed during the final half of March. The hunting season starts on 1 April, and by that time all foreign hunters who have paid their license fee during the last year should have received the payment slip.
- You may order and pay for the license online through - The Brnnysund Register Centre's Website
- If you pay by credit card, you can printout a temporary receipt that is valid for 30 days. You must take this receipt with you when you go hunting until you receive the hunting license in the mail.
- You may also order a hunting license fee payment slip from the Register of Hunters. A new hunting license fee payment slip will be sent on the day after, or on the first working day after, you place your order, and will be in your mailbox within a few days.

Always state your hunter number in addition to your name and address when you contact the Register of Hunters.
EligibilityEdit
To be registered as a license hunter you must;
- be at least 18 years old
- have paid your hunting license fee for the current hunting year, and the payment must be registered in the Hunters register
- have fulfilled your reporting requirements in accordance with the regulation of 18th March 2005 on management of large carnivores 16
Individuals residing outside Norway do not need to take the big game shooting test in Norway if they have fulfilled the requirements for hunting big game in their country of residence. Proof of this must be carried while hunting.
FeesEdit
For the current hunting season the hunting license fee is NOK 333. If you would also like to hunt moose, red deer and wild reindeer, there is an additional fee of NOK 89, for a total of NOK 422.
ValidityEdit
If you have not paid the hunting license fee for the last five years you will be deleted off the Norwegian Register of Hunters.
If you want to hunt again, you must send a new documentation of your hunting license to the Norwegian Register of Hunters.

Hunting license applicants will need to pass the Hunting Proficiency Test (Jegerprve).
If you permanently live abroad and would like to hunt in Norway, you do not need to pass the hunters test or shooting qualification test if you satisfy the licensing requirements for similar hunting in your country of residence. If you are intending to hunt in Norway, you must send your foreign hunting license and your name, date of birth and postal address to the Norwegian Register of Hunters.
