Apply In-Person:
- To apply Income Support for Workers in person, the applicant has to make an application at the Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) Service Centre in applicant’s region.
- Links containing address and contact details of the regional service centres can be found in the following Contact link
- Visit the respective ECE Service Centre and obtain an application form for Income Assistance, from the respective department.
- Application form can also be downloaded by clicking the following link: Application form
- After obtaining the application form, the applicant should make an appointment to meet the Clients Services Officer through telephone.
- Telephone numbers for the regional service centres can also be found in the link given above.
- Please make sure that all the documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page are available, while visiting the ECE Service Centre.
- The application form can be completed by the applicant on his/her own or during his/her visit to the Clients Services Officer.
- Once if the application form has been completed, the Client Services Officer explains the Statement and Authorization which is a part of the application.
- He/she will ask the applicant and his/her spouse to that legal document and here ends the application process.
- On submission of application, the Client Services Officer checks the information and all the documents that the applicant provided.
- If everything is found sufficient, the application will be approved and the applicant will be contacted regarding this through registered email address or phone number, within two business days.
- After approval, the applicant will start receiving payments and payments can be a cheque, direct deposit to the applicant’s bank account or direct payment to the applicant’s landlord or utility.
- If the application request has been denied, the applicant will receive a letter denoting the reason for the disapproval.

EligibilityEdit
- The applicant must be a resident of Northwest Territories and he/she must be in greater financial need than their income.
- The applicant must be participating in a productive choice, unless they are exempt.
- The applicant must be 19 years or older.

InstructionsEdit
- A Client Services Officer (CSO) will see the applicant within 10 minutes of their office appointment and they will return all telephone messages and emails within 2 business days.
- Along with the applicants, a friend, family member or advocate is also welcome for attending appointments.
- After disapproval, the applicant can ask for a copy of the regulation or policy used to make the decision. He/she can also appeal the decision.
- People who apply for a disability allowance may receive regular Income Assistance payments while they wait for the Disability Assessment form and other documents to be assessed.

The Income Assistance Program provides Financial Assistance to Northerners to help meet basic and enhanced needs. The program encourages and supports greater self-reliance to improve the quality of lives.
