Procedure

1. Go to the Cass County Courthouse.
2. Present and submit documents required.
3. Complete the application form.
4. Pay the marriage license fee.

• certified copy of the divorce decree or certified copy of the death certificate (for previously married)

Eligibility

• Both applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• If applicants are under the age of 18, 16 and 17 years old, a written consent of both parents or legal guardians is required.

Fees

Marriage License fee: $65.00

Validity

The marriage license is valid for 2 months and may be used anywhere in North Dakota.

Instructions

• The bride and groom must apply together in person at the Cass County Courthouse to complete the application.
• If applicants are residents of North Dakota but getting married anywhere within the state of Minnesota, they must obtain a Minnesota marriage license.
• Marriage licenses are obtained in the state that you are getting married in, not in the state where you reside.
• The parents of minors must be present at the time of the application.
• Legal guardians must bring with legal proof of guardianship.
• A bride and the groom both have the option of changing their last name (surname) after marriage.
