Apply In-Person:

  1. To conduct a Land Ownership Search in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Land Use and Allocation Committee in his/her state of residence.

  3. Visit the office and inform the relevant officer over there that you want to conduct a Land Ownership Search.
  4. The official may require you to present any document relevant to the land’s ownership which can be found in “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Follow the instructions of the official and he/she will trace the Land Registry and provide you with required information.
  6. Then, the applicant has to visit the office of the Surveyor-General to confirm the co-ordinates of the concerned land thereby checking whether the land is subjected to government acquisition and the genuineness of the survey plan.

  8. Visit the office and present the co-ordinates of the land and the plan of survey to the relevant official.
  9. He/she will verify and inform you about the registration and availability status of the respective land with the help of the submitted documents.
  10. In case of lands acquired by companies, the applicant will have to conduct a search at the Corporate Affairs Commission to verify the registration by providing the Incorporation details of the concerned company.

  12. The applicant should also make a land search in the Probate Registry in order to verify that if the land has been provided on estate of any deceased person.
  13. In that case, the applicant must make sure that the person who is selling the land possesses the Grant of Probate or Letter of Administration in his/her name.

  15. Then, the applicant should proceed to verify whether the concerned land is under the vendor’s family or community ownership, by conducting a Traditional Investigation.
  16. Apart from all of these, the applicant must make a visit to the land by themselves and validate that the land originally belongs to the person who is selling the land.
