Apply In-Person:
- To apply for SON Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) Certification in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
- The address and contact details of the state offices can be found in the following contact
- Visit the office and obtain the application form for SON Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) Certification from the relevant department.
- Make sure that you have all the documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Complete the application form as required with appropriate details and information. Attest the application form with your signature.
- Attach the documents with the completed application form.
- Submit the application form and attached documents to the relevant authority at the office. Pay the applicable fees as directed by the officials.
- After submission, SON technical officers conduct an inspection of the production processes and the consignments, conduct testing of samples of the product and submit the report to the Certification Directorate.
- The reports including results of analysis are assessed and recommendations made to the Director General for approval.
- Upon approval of the Director, the applicant is informed regarding the approval through phone or email and asked to collect the Certificate through any applicable means.
Apply Online
- To apply for SON Conformity Assessment Programme (SONCAP) Certification online, the applicant has to visit the official website of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program by clicking the following apply online
- Click on the “Click here to Register on e-SONCAP Portal” button to register. In the next page, click on “Click here for Importer Registration” link which leads you to the Registration page.
- In the next page, you will have to enter your Tax Identification Number and click on “Validate” button.
- Then, fill all the details on the next page about the importer as required and click “Continue” button, fill contact person details, check the captcha box and “terms and conditions” check box, then click “Sign up” button.
- Successful account creation message will appear, click “Ok” button and check your email for the Activation mail. Open the mail and click “Click to activate account” button to activate your account.
- Then, log in into the website by following the same procedure as before. On the left side navigation bar, click “Activate SONCAP Certificate” menu which will open provision for certificate activation.
- At the bottom of the page, links to agencies that provide certifications will be available. Click any agency of your choice and proceed to look for the instructions to apply for a Certificate of Conformity.
- Note that application procedure and requirements may vary depending upon the agency involved. The applicant will have to contact the respective agency and proceed with the application procedure.
- Complete the relevant application form and also provide the documents for the process. After that, necessary examination and verification processes will be done accordingly.
- Once all the processes got over, the applicant will be issued with prior notification.

There are three types of SONCAP certificates based on the type of products and frequency of the shipments.
- Export of Unregistered or Unlicensed Products does not require any product certificate registration and it is meant for infrequent exporters.
- Export of Registered products requires product certificate registration and it is meant for Exporters/manufacturers that have frequent shipments.
- Export of Licensed Products requires product certificate licensing and it is meant for Manufacturers/producers that have regular shipments.
