- Nurses/Midwives who have completed their General Nursing or Basic Midwifery Education and were successful in Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Final Professional Qualifying Examination and Foreign Trained Nurses who have met the Councils requirement for registration, Category of a basic registration is;

Registration for Student (Locally Trained Nurse)
- Upon passing the Nigeria Nurses and Midwives Council National Examination, successful candidates are required to apply for registration and licensing after the release of the results with the Nurses and Midwives Council of Nigeria – NMCN Office NMCN Regional Office Contacts
- Application forms for registration and Licensing forms are forwarded to the Nursing Training Institutions with the examination result file, copies of these forms are also downloadable online via the council website Application Forms or directly download via this link
- Application forms are to be completed by the applicant providing all the required details (information MUST be consistent with that provided at the time of indexing), the completed form should also attest (signed/ Stamped) by the Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal of the training Institution.
- Change of name is ONLY allowed for females for marital reasons (surname only).
- The application shall also be companied by proof of payment of a non – refundable application/registration fee of N42, 967.00 made in favour of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria through REMITA in any bank.
- The Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal should forward the application pack with the duplicate teller and computer printout as proof of payment with a covering letter containing the list of applicants addressed to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, within 90 days of the release of the result; submission of the deadline shall attract a penalty fee of N77, 500.00 - Per school or N16, 250.00 - Per individual.
- Designated staff should be authorized with a letter addressed to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria duly signed and stamped by the Head of Department/Coordinator/Principal.
- Upon receipt of the application, the registrar shall forward all received registration files for assessment and processing. The registrar will not take responsibility for an incomplete application and shall be denied
- All application forms will be reviewed by the Council-appointed registration Committee within four (4 ) weeks of submission but may depend on the volume of applications being reviewed by the Council at the said time. The Council will endeavor, however, to inform the applicant if there is a delay in the review process beyond this time period.
- The committee shall, in the case of refusal of registration, give a reasoned decision and inform the applicant of his right of appeal.
- Upon completion of the document assessment phase the Registration Certificates, Practicing license, badge, and a Continuous Professional Development logbook of each individual candidate will be forwarded back to the training institution, which shall then notify the registered students to collect their registration document against their identity card.
Registration of Foreign-Trained Nurses and Midwives
- Foreign-trained Nurses and Midwives are required to be registered and licensed with the Nursing and Midwives Council of Nigeria for them to be able to practice; he/she is required to show that they have attained the required competency by Council standards.
- Applicants should refer to the “Eligibility” section of this page to confirm eligibility and contact the Council Registry Office to begin the registration process.
- Applicants will be required to collect and complete the Registration/licensure form, issued at the Council Registration Unit office.
- Complete verification of registration/licensure form, don’t forget to attest the form before sending it to the Foreign Nursing Registration Board/Authority; will in turn send it directly to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that verification forms are completed and returned in good time to the Council.
- Applicants are also required to request their Foreign Nursing Registration Board/Authority to;
- Send a letter of good standing directly to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- Send official Academic Transcripts of all nursing courses directly to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. It is the applicant's responsibility to arrange and pay all necessary transcript fees as may be required by the Foreign University/College.
- The applicant is also required to visit the Federal Ministry of Education in Nigeria and request copies of the certificates he/she intended to submit for registration to be authenticated.
- Upon receipt of the complete registration dossier, it will be reviewed by the Council-appointed registration Committee to process all submitted applications.
- Upon being satisfied with the information provided by the respective institution, candidates will be invited for an oral interview by the Registration and Licensing Committee. Based on the results of the oral interview, successful candidates may be invited to sit a written exam, the examination is organized by the Council.
- Sit a pre-registration Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s Examination. The date and time of the examination will be communicated to the applicant in due course. Only successful applicants will proceed to the next steps.
- Upon passing the exams, the applicant will be required to undergo a practical orientation program for a minimum of three (3) months in a nursing/midwives training institution accredited by the Council to acquaint themselves with healthcare systems in Nigeria.
- For Francophone countries, applicants must undergo 18 months of training in an approved School of Nursing in Nigeria, and must sit for the Council’s Professional Examinations.
- This is followed by Payment of current registration/licensing fees of N45,500.00 if the end of the orientation report is satisfactory. Payment should be made in favor of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria through REMITA in any bank. ( Cash payment is not accepted)
- Ii is only after sharing proof of payment with the council will the applicant be registered as a Nurse/ midwife with the Council Registrar and will be issued a Registration Certificate, practicing license, Badge, and a Continuous Professional Development logbook.
- The processing time accumulatively is a minimum of six (6) months and a maximum of eighteen (18) months.

BASIC REGISTRATION
- Six (6) recent, clear identical coloured passport photographs, full face on white background, no eyeglasses.
- Letter of identification from the school of training addressed to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- Proof of Payment of a non - refundable application/registration fee of N42, 967.00 (Bank deposit)
POST BASIC REGISTRATION
- Letter of identification from the school of training addressed to the Registrar, Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- Original copy of the certificate/statement of result for sighting.
- Photocopy of the certificate of recent qualification(s).
- Photocopy of certificate of previous qualification(s)/registration with the Council.
- Current license.
- Original transcripts for Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and MSc in Nursing Education are needed for those with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc).
- Proof of Payment of a non - refundable application/registration fee of N61, 092.00 for Midwives/ Psychiatric Nurses and N44, 500 (Bank Deposit Slip)
Registration of Foreign-Trained Nurses and Midwives
- Proof of payment of a non – refundable application/examination fee of N45, 500 into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria through REMITA in any bank.
- Complete registration/licensing application forms with five (5) coloured passport photographs on a white background.
- Complete verification of registration/licensure form and send it to the Foreign Nursing Registration Board/Authority who will, in turn, send it directly to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

- Applicants who are citizens of the Republic of Benin, Niger, and other francophone countries should provide clearance from Immigration, Nigerian Police, and the Directorate of State Security Services.

- Evidence of stamped international passport for exit and entry into the country for the duration of training.

EligibilityEdit
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible;
- To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
- To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short, not to have a criminal record.
- To have attained one of the following academic degrees:
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from one of Nigeria’s high institutes, or an equivalent degree elsewhere than in Nigeria, which the council recognizes as equivalent to the qualification by examination required by the council.
- A Diploma from a healthcare institute affiliated with the Ministry of Health (nursing division) or an equivalent degree.
- Applicant must possess a minimum of five (5) credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in not more than two (2) sittings in WACE/SSCE or GCE or NECO.
- Applicants who are citizens of the Republic of Benin, Niger, and other francophone countries should provide clearance from Immigration, Nigerian Police, and the Directorate of State Security Services.
- Applicants who are citizens of francophone countries must present evidence of English language proficiency.
- Applicants must obtain an Indexing Number from the Council before the commencement of the programme.
- Applicants must undergo 18 months of training in an approved School of Nursing in Nigeria, and must sit for the Council’s Professional Examinations.

ValidityEdit
- The validity of the registration certificate shall be mentioned on the document and while the practice license shall be subjected to renewal and payment of the practice fees after three years, this should be submitted on time before the lapse of the current practice license, to allow enough time for the renewal due process to be completed.
