Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Official Passport in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Comptroller General at the Nigerian Immigration Services, Headquarters.
  2. The address and contact details of NIS can be found in the following contact link
  3. Visit the office and obtain an application form for Official Passport from the relevant department.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the application form and attach the documents (as required) with the completed application.
  6. Then submit the application package to the relevant authority at the office. Pay the required amount of fees as directed by the officials.
  7. After submission, the submitted applications and attached documents will put forth for verification and validation.
  8. On checking and finding that the requirements have been furnished properly, the officials will proceed to perform further required actions.
  9. Once all the necessary processes are over and the documentis ready for collection, you will be notified through phone or email and asked to collect the document.


Apply Online

  1. To apply for a Standard Passport online, the applicant must visit the Nigerian Immigration Portal by clicking the following online application link
  2. In the page that opens, click on the “Passport” tab and find the Official Passport category and click “Apply” button below that. Application form to obtain that particular category of passport will be opened.
  3. Official e-Passport Application Form is opened. Complete the form with relevant details under respective sections and click “Next” button.
  4. Complete the step 2 with personal features, details and address of Kin, check the declaration form and click “Submit Application” button.
  5. Application summary page will be opened, go through once and click “Print & Continue” button. Print and attest the form.
  6. Click “Continue application” button and in the next page, click “Proceed to Online Payments” button.
  7. Enter the application ID, click “Add to Cart” button and then click “Proceed to Online Payment” button in the next page.
  8. In the next step, select payment option, checks mark the boxes if you comply with the conditions and click “Next” button and “Continue” button in the next step.
  9. In the payments page, enter personal details, billing details and card details and click “Make Payment” button for making the payment. Make the payment by following the on-screen instructions and also print the receipt.
  10. After payment, your application lodgement will be over and you will be provided with payment reference number.
  11. Then, you have to take all the documents required to be submitted for the type of Passport that you have completed online application and visit the Passport office that you chose during the online application.
  12. Visit the office and submit the required documents to the relevant authority in the office. After submission, the submitted applications and attached documents will put forth for verification and validation.
  13. After checking and finding that the requirements have been furnished properly, the officials will proceed to perform further required actions.
  14. Once all the necessary processes are over and Passport document is ready for collection, you will be notified and asked to collect the document.

InstructionsEdit

  • Application fees paid for the passport is non-refundable.
  • Payment shall be refunded only if double payment is mistakenly made for the same application.
  • Payments are valid for one (1) year only from the payment date.
  • Only online payment is acceptable. Anyone who pays otherwise and receives service is subject to prosecution and revocation of Visa or Passport.
  • If you have already completed an application, please check your application status rather than completing a duplicate application.
  • Please, note that Official e-Passport is processed exclusively at the NIS Service Headquarters, Sauka – Abuja. As such, you are not required to select a Processing Office before submission.
  • Applicants need to ensure correct telephone numbers and email addresses are filled (Failure may result in delay of passport production).

Nigerian Official Passport is a document which is required when a Nigerian wantto travel to another nationality through airways, for official purposes.

Information which might helpEdit

  • Letters of requests for Official Passports shall be signed by the Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Ministries/Heads of Agencies or the Secretaries to the State Governments (SSG) only.
  • No person shall hold two (2) valid passports of the same type concurrently.
  • At the expiration of office, holding Diplomatic/Official Passport becomes unauthorized and must be returned to the Comptroller General of Immigration.
