Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for International Standard Book Number or International Standard Serial Number in person, the applicant has to make an application to the office of the National Librarian of Nigeria.
2. The address and contact details of NLN can be found in the following contact link
3. Make an application letter to apply for an ISBN or ISSN on your company’s letterhead, addressed to the Director of National Library.
4. Visit the office of NLN with the application letter and other documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Approach the relevant authority and submit the application package to him/her. Also, pay the registration fees required.
6. After submission, the submitted applications and attached documents will put forth for verification and validation.
7. On checking and finding that the requirements have been furnished properly, the officials will proceed to perform further required actions.
8. Once all the necessary processes are over and the number is ready for collection, you will be notified through phone or email and asked to collect the document.

Apply online

1. To apply for International Standard Book Number or International Standard Serial Number online, the applicant has to visit the following online application link
2. Visit the link and click “Login/Register” button which is on the top right corner.
3. Enter the login details in the relevant fields and click “Log in” button if you already have an account.
4. Otherwise, click “Sign up” link and proceed to register. Enter the required details, upload a profile picture and click “Register” button.
5. Log in using your user credentials and enter into the portal. Click “services” under “citizens” tab.
6. Then, make a click on “ISBN/ISSN application” option and click “Form” button. (online application link is temporarily unavailable)
7. Application form will get opened. Provide all the information as required under relevant sections.
8. Also, upload the required documents by following the onscreen instructions.
9. Pay the required amount of fees by following the onscreen instructions and complete the submission of application form.
10. After submission, the submitted applications and attached documents will put forth for verification and validation.
11. On checking and finding that the requirements have been furnished properly, the officials will proceed to perform further required actions.
12. Once all the necessary processes are over and the number is ready for collection, you will be notified through phone or email and asked to collect the document.

Eligibility

• Any person in Nigeria, who has written a book on his/her own and needs an ISBN approval for that, can apply.
• Any person in Nigeria, who has completed a journal/serial on his/her own and needs an ISSN approval for that, can apply.
