Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To apply for Electrical Installations Inspection and Testing Certification you should make your application through a licensed electrical contractor to an authorized electricity distribution company (DisCos) in your locality. 2. Once you have identified a suitable electrical contractor, the contractor will start by identifying a distribution company (DisCos) in your area and obtains the application form. The contractor will then fill the form, and submit it to the distribution company along with the supporting documents.
3. Upon receipt of the application, the company will examine the application to determine if you meet the required standards.
4. If the application is approved, the electrician will be issued with an approval letter along with a list of external materials that you should buy among the materials listed in the letter are the distribution transformer, cables, installation accessories, and other external connections materials.
5. Purchase the required materials and pay the survey fees at the distribution company office.
6. Then your contractor will submit a request for a site visit from an engineer of the distribution company.
7. The engineer from the distribution company will then visit the site to verify if the purchased external materials are of good quality and if the materials are purchased from authorized distributors.
8. After the materials have been approved, the engineer will issue a letter of approval and then proceed with the installation process of the materials as required.
9. Upon installation, your contractor will request a site inspection from the Inspecting Engineer of the Nigerian Electrical Power Authority (NEPA).
10. NEPA will send an inspector to your site and the inspecting engineer will check all materials to find out whether they were of the correct quality and if the materials were installed well. Note that you will provide the inspection engineer with the approval letter from DisCos.
11. Once the inspection is completed and the inspector confirms that the installation is completed as required, the inspector will prepare a certificate of compliance and issue it to you.
12. Then proceed with making the necessary payment to the Federal Ministry of Power and Steel and then obtain the Inspection Certificate.
