Apply In-Person
- To apply for a Contributory Pension Scheme in person, the applicant has to visit the office of National Pension Commission in Nigeria.
- The address and contact details of the commission can be found in the following link: contact link
- Visit the office and obtain an application form to be completed to apply for Contributory Pension Scheme from the relevant department.
- Complete the application form with appropriate information under relevant sections. Attest it with your signature once completed.
- Once completed filling the application form, make sure that you have attached all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
- Then, submit it in person to the relevant authority at the office. Make the stipulated payment as directed by the officials.
- After submission, the application and other documents will be forwarded for examination and verification processes.
- Once the verification and validation processes are over, the application will be approved and the officials will proceed to take required steps.
- When the document is ready to be collected, the applicant will be notified by the office and the applicant can collect it by any applicable means.

- Consent form to be retained in the contributor’s Mandate File with PFA

EligibilityEdit
- Any person working in the Republic of Nigeria, who wishes to become a contributor of the Contributory Pension Scheme, can apply.
- Any employer in a company with three or more employees enrolled for making mandatory contributions under the CPS can apply.
- Any retiree under the defunct Defined Benefit Scheme, who secures another contract employment, is eligible.

InstructionsEdit
- The contributions must be made only in Nigerian Currency and shall be remitted into and withdrawn from a duly registered Retirement Savings Account, managed by a licensed Pension Fund Administrator.
- All Voluntary Contributions must be remitted through an employer into the Retirement Savings Account and the frequency of Voluntary Contribution shall not be more than once a month for all categories of contributors.

- Applicants are advised to complete the application form neatly and completely with absolute legibility and appropriateness to avoid rejections. Also, all the required documents must be furnished completely.

- Working people in the Republic of Nigeria are mandated to reserve a minimum amount of 18% of his/her salary for the Retired Savings Account so that he/she can be paid a better retirement benefit.

- The main purpose of the Pension Reform is to introduce a pension system that is sustainable and has the capacity to achieve the ultimate goal of providing a stable, predictable and adequate source of retirement income for each employee in Nigeria.
- Judicial officers, Members of the Armed Forces, the Intelligence and Secret Services of the Federation, existing retirees prior to June, 2004 and employees who had 3 years or less to retire as at June, 2000 are exempted from the Contributory Pension Scheme.
- The minimum rate of contributions is 18% of the employee’s monthly earnings where 10% is contributed by the employer and 8% is contributed by the employee.
