Applying for a license:

  1. Obtain a certificate from a Driver Education Center proof that you have completed a course in driving.
  2. Complete an application for a regular driver's license.
  3. Submit the completed the form along with all other required documents.
  4. Pay the application fee.


Additional license category: You may apply to obtain additional license category. But if you intend to be hired as a driver for companies, cooperatives or individuals you must apply for a professional license.

Holders of a regular driving license may drive a vehicle with the exception of vehicles used as a means of livelihood, for this you would need to obtain a professional driver's license. Following is a procedure on how to apply for a regular driving license.

Driver's license categories:
Category 1: Motorcycles and quad bikes (up to 200cc)
Category 2: Motorcycles and quad bikes (over 200cc)
Category 3: Light vehicles and taxis whose capacity does not exceed nine persons including the driver; or 3.5 tons (3,500 kg)
Category 4 - 4A: Vehicles with cargo capacity between 4 to 8 tons
Category 4B: Passenger transport vehicle with seating capacity not exceeding 18 people (including the driver)
Category 5 - 5A: Vehicles with load capacity between 8 to 12 tons
Category 5B: Passenger transport vehicle with seating capacity not exceeding 25 people (including the driver)
Category 6 - 6A: Vehicles with load capacity between 12 to 18 tons and articulated vehicles
Category 6B: Passenger transport vehicle with seating capacity for more than 25 people
Category 7: Vehicles with load capacity greater than 18 tons and articulated vehicles
Category 8: Farm vehicles (mowers, seeders, combines, etc.) and construction vehicles (loaders, backhoes, compactors, crawler tractors, etc.) and all other vehicles used in farming and construction
