Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for Tax Preparer License, the applicant has to approach the Canada Revenue Agency – link
- Working under the supervision of an experienced tax professional or gaining practical experience through internships or entry-level positions can provide valuable hands-on experience in tax preparation.
- Several professional organizations in Canada offer certifications for tax professionals. Research and choose the certification that aligns with the applicant’s career goals and requirements. Some well-known certifications include the Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) designation, the Enrolled Agent (EA) designation, and the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
- For further process, the applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
- It is important to stay up to date with changes in tax laws and regulations. Many certifications require ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical standards.
- Fulfill the continuing education requirements and maintain the applicant’s certification by meeting the organization's renewal criteria.
