Apply Online

  1. The applicant must apply for EI Sickness benefits as soon as they stop working (Even if they do not have required documents, these can be submitted later), if the applicant applies more than four weeks after their last day of work, they may lose benefits.
  2. The applicant will need to complete the online application, using the following link to view the application form: Link
  3. Once the applicant has submitted the application form, they will need to submit the required documents, the applicant can send it by mail or the applicant can submit the documents at the nearest Service Canada Centre, find mailing address and service Canada address under the “Office Locations and Contacts” section of this page.
  4. Once the application and the document have been submitted, the applicant will receive a benefit statement and four-digit code by email.
  5. The applicant will need this code and their Social Insurance Number to track their application.
  6. The applicant can track their application from the Service Canada Centre or MSCA account.


Creating a My Service Canada Account (MSCA)

  1. The applicant will have to register for a My Service Canada Account (MSCA). If the applicant has an account, log in directly. If the applicant does not have an account, follow these steps:
    • To create an account, click on the following Link.
    • Scroll to the bottom and under the “New User” option, click on the option the applicant would like to register using.
    • Click on “Start now”.
    • The applicant will need to enter all the relevant details such as username, password, bank details and so on and the account will be created.

EligibilityEdit

The applicant can apply for EI Sickness benefits if:

  • They can show that they are unable to work due to medical reasons.
  • The applicant’s weekly earnings have decreased by more than 40% for a week.
  • The applicant’s company must offer employer-paid sick leave.

FeesEdit

  • The applicant does not need to pay a fee to obtain an EI sickness benefit.
  • The applicant may have to pay a fee for a medical report from their doctor and this will not be reimbursed.



ValidityEdit

  • The benefits end when the applicant starts working.
  • The applicant has received 15 weeks of benefits.
  • The applicant has reached the end of their claim period.

Processing TimeEdit
