ProcedureEdit

Service NL has implemented a comprehensive commercial test for drivers wishing to obtain a Class 1, 2, or 3 driver's licence.

The road test for a Class 4 is similar in content as that for a Class 5, except you must stop at a railway crossing.

Please note before you can obtain a commercial class of driver's licence:

  1. You must have one (1) year as a class 5 driver before you can apply for a commercial class of driver's licence.
  2. Before applying for a commercial driver's licence, you must submit a medical form completed by your family doctor. Forms may be obtained from any Motor Registration Office or Driver Examination Centre.
  3. When you submit the completed medical form, you must take a written commercial and sign test along with a vision test. You will also require an air brake endorsement for those vehicles equipped with air brakes. You will then be issued a permit authorizing you to receive instruction from a licenced commercial driver for the class of licence desired. When you are ready, you must make an appointment at a Driver Examination Centre for a road test.
