Apply In-person

  1. To apply for a child passport, the applicant has to visit the nearest passport office or a Service Canada centre that offers passport services.
  2. The applicant can use the following link to find the nearest passport office centre service link
  3. The applicant will have to take a printout of the application form and fill in all the details.
  4. Download the form by using the following Application form link.
  5. Attach all necessary documents with the application form as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page. (The documents must either be in French or English)
  6. The applicant will have to pay fees as mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
  7. Submit the completed application form with supporting documents at the nearest passport office or Service Canada centre.
  8. The application will be forwarded to the concerned authorities.
  9. The applicant can collect the passport from the office on the date mentioned on the receipt, they will receive after fee payment.
  10. The applicant can collect the passport in person, the processing time is 10 days from the submission of the application.

Apply Online
Follow these steps to make an online appointment:

  2. Select language.
  3. Enter details, and click on “Passport services”.
  4. Click on “Submit”.
  5. The applicant will get a call from services Canada to confirm the appointment.


Apply by Mail

  1. To apply by mail, the applicant will have to fill the application form with relevant details.
  2. Here is the link to the Application form.
  3. Attach relevant documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. Use a certified mail or courier service to mail the application and documents. (This will also help protect your documents)

  7. The applicant will have to pay a fee, to do this fill out the fee payment section of your application form.
  8. Enter your credit card information.
  9. Mail the form to either of the above-given addresses.
  10. Once submitted, the form will be forwarded to the concerned authorities.
  11. The applicant will receive the passport as well as the other original documents by mail. (This will arrive in two separate packages)

  • Proof of child’s Canadian citizenship (Original copies of birth certificate or citizenship certificate)
  • Two identical passport photos (One photo needs to be signed by the Guarantor and the address of the photographer and date on which the photo was taken must be mentioned in the back of one of the photos)
  • Proof of parentage or legal guardianship.
  • All documents that refer to the custody of, mobility of, or access to the child.
  • Any valid Canadian passport or travel document issued in the child’s name.

EligibilityEdit

  • The child should be under the age of 16.
  • The applicant can only apply for a child passport if the child they are the child’s parent/s and have custody of the child. (If the applicant is divorced or separated).
  • The child’s legal guardian with documentation.




FeesEdit

  • The applicant will have to pay a fee of 57 Canadian Dollars.
  • The applicant will have to pay an additional fee if they need
  • To replace a lost or stolen passport: 45$
  • Urgent pickup (By the end of the next business day): 110$
  • Express processing (Within 2 to 9 business days): 50$
  • Standard pickup at the passport office i.e. within 10 business days: 10$

ValidityEdit

  • A child’s passport is valid for a maximum of 5 years. It’s valid until it reaches its expiry date, even after the child turns 16.
  • Once the child reaches 16 years of age, they can apply for an adult passport.
  • The applicant cannot renew the passport; they will have to apply for a new passport if the child is still under 16 years of age after expiry.
