Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Canada Retirement Pension in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest Service Canada Office.
  2. Links containing address and contact details of the Service Canada offices in Newfoundland and Labrador can be found in the following contact link
  3. Visit the respective office and obtain an Application form for Canada Pension Plan Retirement Pension (ISP-1000) from the respective department. Or click here to download: application form
  4. After downloading the application, the applicant can fill it electronically or using a pen.
  5. Make sure that all the documents in the “Required Documents” section of this page are available.
  6. Complete the application as per convenience, attest it with signature and attach the required documents with the application form.
  7. Then, submit the application package to the relevant authority at the respective Service Canada office.
  8. The application form can also be mailed to the nearest Service Canada Offices as per the Provinces: mailing address
  9. Upon submission of application and required documents, assessment and verification by the respective officials will take place.
  10. Once they find that the submitted information is sufficient and the applicant is eligible for the Pension, a written notification of decision will be forwarded to his/her mailing address.
  11. The notice will indicate whether the application has been approved or declined.
  12. If approved, the payment will be directly done to the beneficiary’s bank account every month. If the applicant didn’t choose direct deposit, a cheque will be mailed to the applicant during the last 3 business days of each month.
  13. If not and the applicant is not satisfied with the decision, he/she may ask to have the decision reviewed. They must request this review in writing within 90 days of receiving the decision letter.


Apply Online
Using GC Key

  1. To apply for Canada Retirement Pension online using GC Key, the applicant has to visit the following link: apply online
  2. Visit the link and enter the user details in the respective fields, then click “Sign In” button, if the applicant already has an account.
  3. If not, click the “Sign Up” button to create an account. Click “I accept” button and type an appropriate username in the next tab.
  4. Click “Continue” button and create a password for the account in the next tab, then click “Continue” button.
  5. Create Recovery Questions, Answers and Hints in the next page and click “Continue” button. Click “I agree” button in the next page.
  6. In the next page, the applicant will be presented with 2 options to help verifying his/her identity. Select an applicable option.
  7. Once the applicant has signed in with GC Key and verified the identity, he/she will be directed to create the MSCA profile.
  8. Follow the onscreen instructions and complete the profile creation. Proceed to sign in using the Username and Password.
  9. After profile creation, the applicant has to complete the application for the Canada Retirement Pension by clicking the applicable button.
  10. Complete the online application with respect to the requirement by providing the necessary details and information.
  11. Once completed, submit the application by clicking the applicable button. After submission, assessment and verification by the respective officials will take place.
  12. Once they find that the submitted information is sufficient and the applicant is eligible for the Pension, a written notification of decision will be forwarded to the applicant’s mailing address.
  13. The notice will indicate whether the application has been approved or declined. Meanwhile, the applicant can also view the status of application under the "Application Status" link in his/her “My Service Canada Account”.

  1. To apply for Canada Retirement Pension online using bank account, the applicant has to visit the following link apply online
  2. List of financial Sign-In Partners will be displayed in the link, select one among them in which the applicant has subscribed online banking.
  3. Respective online banking portal will be opened, login into it using the user credentials.
  4. After logging in, there will be 2 options to help verifying the applicant’s identity. Select an applicable option.
  5. Once the user has verified the identity, he/she will be directed to create the MSCA profile.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions and complete the profile creation. Proceed to sign in using the Username and Password.
  7. After profile creation, the user has to complete the application for the Canada Retirement Pension by clicking the applicable button.
  8. Complete the online application with respect to the requirement by providing the necessary details and information.
  9. Once completed, submit the application by clicking the applicable button. After submission, assessment and verification by the respective officials will take place.

  • You must complete and send a paper application if you’re receiving, have ever received, or have been denied a CPP benefit, such as disability pension, survivor’s pension or a children’s benefit.
  • You must complete and send a paper application if you live outside Canada or you have an authorized third party such as a power of attorney that manages your CPP account.
  • If you submit a paper application, it normally can take up to 120 days to get your written notification of decision. It could take longer if your application is missing information.
  • Remember to apply in advance to ensure that you start to receive your pension by the date you choose.

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) retirement pension is a monthly, taxable benefit that replaces part of your income when you retire. If you qualify, you’ll receive the CPP retirement pension for the rest of your life.

  • Valid contributions can be either from work you did in Canada, or as the result of receiving credits from a former spouse or former common-law partner at the end of the relationship.
  • The amount you receive each month is based on your average earnings throughout your working life, your contributions to the CPP, and the age you decide to start your CPP retirement pension. Click for relevant information: relevant information
  • The standard age to start the pension is 65. However, you can start receiving it as early as age 60 or as late as age 70.
  • If you start receiving your pension earlier, the monthly amount you’ll receive will be smaller. If you decide to start later, you’ll receive a larger monthly amount.
