Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Canada Pension Plan (Children Benefit) in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest Service Canada office.
  2. Address and contact details of the offices can be found in the following Contact link
  3. The applicant has to visit the office and obtain an application form for Children Benefit (as applicable) from the relevant department or the applicant can use the download links present in the “Documents to Use” section of this page.
  4. After downloading the application, the applicant can fill it online as well as offline. Make sure that all the documents in the “Required Documents” section of this page are available.
  5. Complete the application as per convenience, attest it with signature and attach the required documents with the application form.
  6. Then, submit the application package to the relevant authority at the respective Service Canada office.
  7. The application process is free and the applicant need not pay anything to apply for the Children Benefit.
  8. Upon receipt of the application and all the required information, the Department will proceed to review and assess the submitted information.
  9. On completion of the review, the Service Canada office will call the applicant to inform the decision made.


Apply through mail

  1. To apply for Canada Pension Plan (Children Benefit) through mail, the applicant has to send a mail application to the Service Canada office.
  2. The mailing address can be found in the following link Mailing address
  3. First, the applicant has to download the application form (as applicable) using the download links present in the “Documents to Use” section of this page.
  4. After downloading the application, the applicant can fill it online as well as offline. Make sure that all the documents in the “Required Documents” section of this page are available.
  5. Complete the application as per convenience, attest it with signature and attach the required documents with the application form.
  6. Then, send the application package to the respective Service Canada office, through a safe and secure mail service.
  7. The application process is free and the applicant need not pay anything to apply for the Children Benefit.
  8. Upon receipt of the application and all the required information, the Department will proceed to review and assess the submitted information.
  9. On completion of the review, the Service Canada office will call the applicant to inform the decision made.


Apply online (Only for children from 18-25)
Using GC Key

  1. To apply for Canada Pension Plan (Children Benefit) online using GC Key, the applicant has to visit the following link GC Key
  2. Visit the link, scroll down to the bottom and click “Start now” button. In the next page, enter the user details in the respective fields, then click “Sign In” button, if the applicant already has an account.
  3. If not, click the “Sign Up” button to create an account. Click “I accept” button and type an appropriate username in the next tab.
  4. Click “Continue” button and create a password for the account in the next tab, then click “Continue” button.
  5. Create Recovery Questions, Answers and Hints in the next page and click “Continue” button. Click “I agree” button in the next page.
  6. In the next page, there will be two options to help verify the applicant’s identity. Select an applicable option.
  7. Once the applicant has signed in with GC Key and verified his/her identity, the applicant will be directed to create the MSCA profile.
  8. Follow the onscreen instructions and complete the profile creation. Proceed to sign in using the Username and Password.
  9. After profile creation, the applicant has to complete the application for the Canada Pension Plan (Children Benefit) by clicking the applicable button.
  10. Complete the online application with respect to the requirement by providing the necessary details and information.
  11. Once completed, submit the application by clicking the applicable button. After submitting the online application form, the applicant has to complete the Declaration of Attendance: Children from 18-25
  12. After completing it, the applicant should attach the certified true copies of the supporting documents (as instructed) with the completed declaration form.
  13. Then, the applicant should choose a safe and secure mail service and send the package to mailing address of the Service Canada office: Mailing address
  14. The application process is free and the applicant need not pay anything to apply for the Children Benefit.
  15. Upon receipt of the application and all the required information, the Department will proceed to review and assess the submitted information.
  16. On completion of the review, the Service Canada office will call the applicant to inform the decision made.

EligibilityEdit

  • The recipient child must be under the age of 18 or 25 and they must have full-time attendance at a recognized school or university.
  • The child must also be the natural child of the contributor or a child adopted “legally" or "in fact" by the contributor while under the age of 21.

InstructionsEdit

  • Whenever submitting documents to Service Canada, the applicant should send certified true photocopies rather than the original document. If it is mandatory to send original documents, they must send them registered mail.
  • The original documents will be returned to the applicants. The department will only accept a photocopy of an original document if it is readable and if the applicant has someone certify that it is a true copy of the original.

  • The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) children's benefits provide monthly payments to the dependent children of disabled or deceased CPP contributors.
  • The program benefits the natural as well as legally adopted children while under the age of 21. It also benefits the children who are legally in the custody and control of the contributor while under the age of 21.
