You can apply for this licence after six months on your learner licence. To progress to this step, youll have to pass a practical test of your driving skills.

- Entitles you to drive unsupervised between the hours of 5am and 10pm with no passengers except:
- Your partner,
- Your parent or legal guardian,
- A child who lives with you and is under the care of you or your partner
- A person for whom you care are a primary caregiver, or
- A relative living with you who is a beneficiary
- Entitles you to drive at any time of day with a supervisor who has held a full New Zealand licence for over two years seated in the front passenger seat. If you are accompanied by a supervisor you can carry passengers including those noted above
